I will be able to… Keep good records Collaborate with others Build on the work/thinking of others Think about and make my own inference on “How does Science impact my life?” World’s Greatest Scientific Invention? • Task: Come to a group consensus on what your group believes to be the #1 greatest invention of all time.

  2. Roles & Responsibilities • Facilitator – leads the discussion and focuses on task • Timer • Recorder • Runner/Checker

  3. Purpose • Establish group norms/effective cooperative groups • Answer our guiding question, How does science impact my life?

  4. Steps for Success…big picture • Establish criteria for “great” (5 minutes) • Brainstorm a group list of inventions that would meet your groups’ criteria (5 minutes) • Come get the List: “Greatest Inventions of All Time” and add to your group brainstorm (10 minutes) • Read and revamp your brainstorm: simplify your list to the top 10 or less inventions (10 minutes) • Come to consensus on #1 greatest invention of all time (5 minutes) Consensus – the majority is evident after all voices have been heard even those most opposed

  5. Homework: • You need to take your group’s thinking and now go do some of your own thinking… • Real world – • Group projects vs. individual learning • We do most labs in groups in our class – collaboration and sharing ideas is critical • We MUST always be able to walk away with our own learning and thoughts
