  4. Registration Card • Should be used as a worksheet to assist you in online registration • Will not be turned in • Students must choose 8 courses and 4 alternate courses • Band students who choose Marching Band will have 9 courses

  5. Alternate Course Selections You must select four (4) alternate courses. Alternate courses are used when your first-choice electives are unavailable. Be very careful in selecting your alternate courses as they will be used when it is necessary to accommodate your required courses.

  6. Advanced Placement (AP) • Advanced placement courses are college-level classes. Pass the AP exam and earn College credit! • Over 22 subjects available, if not available at LNHS, may be offered through virtual public school. • Advanced placement courses are challenging, stimulating, and extremely rigorous. • Worth 2-3 quality pts

  7. North Carolina Virtual Public Schools (NCVPS) Three different on-line opportunities: • North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) • North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS)

  8. Huskins • Classes are held at Mitchell Community College • You receive both HS and College Credit. Some courses are HS honors, others are not. • College credit accepted at all 16 UNC System Colleges (next slide) and Community Colleges, depending on course completed. • Must at least a junior, min. 2.5 GPA, good attendance and discipline. • See Ms. Winterkamp for additional info

  10. Dual EnrollmentWhat is that? • Enrolled in BOTH HS and Mitchell Community College. Credit earned - applied ONLY towards college. • 16 yrs old by 1st day of class - enrolled in HS at least ½ time. (Yes, you can take summer classes!) • Tuition - $7.50 per class plus books. • Math, science, technical and development courses. • See Ms. Winterkamp for info., Rm #434

  11. Registration Process and Dates • March 1st – 3rd Registration will begin by homeroom, prior selection should be made by this time and uploaded in career cruising • April – Option Verification Letters will be sent home around this time • Schedules will be given out as soon as possible

  13. Schedule Changes You will have a chance to review your course selections in April and request changes at that time. Any issues should be taken care of immediately • Choose courses wisely…schedule changes will be limited to: • Blanks in schedule • Problems with sequence • Prerequisite issues

Art Academy • Application process: • 2.5 minimum GPA – Transcript required • Parent-signed Learning Agreement • Mini-essay questions • Two Teacher Recommendations Enhanced Art Curriculum VADA student get enrollment preference in art classes Student must maintain 3.0 GPA in all art classes Designed for the serious art student! 

Course Planner • Step by step instructions and log in information included in your packet • Documents can be found under LNHS Freshman Academy webpage • Courses cannot be locked in before being checked by a counselor but we encourage you to make your selections at home with a parent within the next week to allow time for questions if needed Visit the table out front for individual questions

Closing • Please take a comment card on guidance table and place in the designated boxes in the commons to allow us to better serve you in the future. • We appreciate your attendance and input in improving our process. • All departments, clubs, and sport teams are located downstairs in the gym to answer questions and give guidance on course selections. • Career Cruising, NCVPS, and counselors are set up in the commons to give assistance
