  2. Myelination Matters myelination increases the speed and strength of connections in your brain

  3. Practice makes Perfect Practice causes myelination. The more we practice anything, the more we improve the speed and strength of connections in our brains. It’s like getting faster wi-fi.

  4. Perfect practice makes perfect • If we practice poorly and do not correct our mistakes, we will make the wrong connections in our brains.

  5. Perfect practice makes perfect Practice should be: • Frequent • Deliberate • Corrected

  6. How will we practice this term • Reading is practice • Class work is practice • Homework is practice • Response tasks are practice • Revision for summer exams is practice

  7. 10,000 hours In the book Outliers, author Malcolm Gladwell says that it takes roughly ten thousand hours of practice to achieve mastery in a field. 7 hours a day x 5 days a week Over 13 weeks = 455 hours in just 1 term
