  2. ICDL • Is a free resource for children around the world. • It is an interactive online library for children and adults to access books in 54 languages from 228 countries.

ICDL Mission Statement • The mission of the International Children's Digital Library Foundation (ICDL Foundation) is to support the world's children in becoming effective members of the global community - who exhibit tolerance and respect for diverse cultures, languages and ideas -- by making the best in children's literature available online free of charge. The Foundation pursues its vision by building a digital library of outstanding children's books from around the world and supporting communities of children and adults in exploring and using this literature through innovative technology designed in close partnership with children for children.

  4. Global Outlook • A goal of the ICDL is to excite and inspire children to become part of their world community. Stories are authentic from each country’s culture.

  5. Who created the ICDL? • ICDL website was created in collaboration with a research team from the University of Maryland. The team included: • 18 children (ages three to thirteen, from Germany, Honduras, New Zealand, and United States) • computer scientist • librarians • educational • Technologists • classroom teachers • graphic designers • graduate students
