MSTAR Logistics • Program Focus • Research projects are offered in basic, clinical, or health services research relevant to older people • Program Duration • 8-12 weeks of research • Start date varies by student availability • Poster presentation at annual American Geriatrics Society (AGS) meeting • Monthly Stipend • Approximately $1700 • Potential Travel Funds for AGS • NIA/NIH • Any student accepted into MSTAR national program may not have any consecutive NIA/NIH award programs

MSTAR Applications • Who Can Apply • Currently enrolled allopathic or osteopathic medical students in good standing who will have completed one year of medical school at a U.S. institution by June 2015 • Applicants must be citizens or non-citizen nationals with permanent residence • Individuals on temporary or student visas are not eligible • Requirements • Faculty Sponsor or Research Mentor Letter of Recommendation • Sponsor’s work must be relevant to geriatrics and/or gerontology • Faculty Letter of Recommendation • Call the MSTAR Program Site before applying • Application Deadline • January 31, 2015 • Submit applications to The American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR)

National MSTAR Training Centers Harvard Medical School(8 to 12 week program) Available positions: 10 Program Director:Jim Rudolph (contact Dr. Rudolph prior to submitting their application)Partner sites: Boston University, University of Mississippi  Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine(8 week maximum) Available positions: 18 Program Director:Jeremy Barron or Carolyn RobinsonUniversity of California, Los Angeles - David Geffen School of Medicine(8 to 12 week program) Available Positions: 16 Program Directors: Jonathan Wanagat and Alison Moorestudents interested in training at the partner sites must contact the respective program director prior to submitting their application. Partner sites: University of California, San Francisco, program director Mike Steinman (3 to 6 positions) University of Colorado at Denver, program director Eric Coleman (3 positions) University of Washington, program director May Reed (3 to 5 positions) University of California, San Diego School of Medicine(8 to 12 week program) Available positions: 18 Program Directors:DilipJeste, Maureen Curran, and Michelle BlackUniversity of North Carolina(8 to 12 week program) Available positions: 8 (potentially 12) Program Directors:Ellen Roberts and Jan Busby-WhiteheadUniversity of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio & University of Texas Medical Branch(8 week max) Available positions: 16 positions Program Directors:Sandra Sanchez-Reilly (UTHSCSA) and Tony DiNuzzo (UTMB)
