  1. Poetry Notebook Mrs. Webb’s Sophomoreclass 2003-2004

  2. Poetry is... Poetry to me is a form of writing without just being obvious Poetry is a way to get out your true feeling. Poetry comes from the heart. It’s not fact, but it is opinion. A poem should touch someone’s heart Poems often get the point across clearer than trying to write a whole page about a subject.

  3. Searching and Waiting Searching and waiting Trying to find my way through Need some light to see My time is wasted every time I can’t find a light to see --KG Form: Tanka

  4. Poetry is an imaginative language chosen to express the way you feel through meaning, sound, and rhythm. Depth is put into poetry to show the true emotions of the author. It can show the inner you. Poetry to me is expressing your thoughts, desires and opinions in a creative rhythmic form. Poetry is also a way to unleash all emotions within in a educated form. I also believe that music is poetry and has strong effects on the mood of anyone in its path. When you read a good poem it opens your mind to places you never thought possible.

  5. Personal Credo I believe in the good in people. The kindness a human being can share The comfort a little puppy can bring The personal bonds you make with friends But I don’t believe in the fear in our hearts I believe in telling the truth I believe in being true to yourself I believe in making yourself the best you can be And I believe in the fact that every person is as kind and caring as the next. --KG

  6. Metaphor Poem Depressed is like a black door, It keeps people from coming in, And you from going out. It makes you feel dark and cold, It isolates you from the rest of the world, Which brings you nothing, But sorrow and pain. --MB

  7. Personal Credo I believe in standing up for what you believe in The power of friendship The mystery of miracles The importance of trust The evil that exists in money Strength, Confidence, Courage But I don’t believe that the color of someone’s skin makes them any different than those around them. I believe in love at first sight I believe in the power of one voice I believe that you always have to rely on yourself. Dream, Love, Stand Up And I believe that you can’t live your life without the love of another, whether it’s from a family member, a friend, a mate or God --BP

  8. Poetry for me is a way to get out of the world and my problems. It’s a way to show people what you are capable of and show them what you like and who you are. Poetry can be switched around as much as you want it to be. You can talk about being sad, glad, happy excited, depressed. Poetry can be a sign for love and devotion Or poetry can be a sign of emotion Loving, caring it can be But only you can let it free. Poetry is unbelievable to me. No matter how it is written.

  9. Things you convince yourself of to not do homework • I have plenty of time in the morning • It’s not that important: I can do it in ten minutes • I bet no one else did it • It’s only worth 15 points • I can do extra credit • I’m too tired and sleep is more important, need to be sharp • My brain hurts • I’m too emotional right now • I have no time • --KG • Form: List

  10. Metaphor Poem I walk to the edge, Afraid of falling, Falling into the abyss I stop and stare, Scared of never being able, Able to get back to the top. But I know that I have to. I have to go down, into the unknown. I slowly take a step, I drop six terrifying inches closer. I finally reach the pitch dark bottom, Thankful just to be alive. I reach out carefully, Grab a jar of peaches, And dart back upstairs. I have always been scared Of those yellow stairs. --SK

  11. Reading poetry that you can relate to is very inspiring, and it can make you realize that you’re not the only One who feels and thinks certain thoughts. Poetry is the flow of words in and out of a story or something that gets a point across to the reader. When you are writing it or reading it you are set aside from the rest of the world. I kind of find poetry stressful to write on the spot. For me it’s more of a thing to do on a rainy day when I am feeling down or lonely. Poetry lets you enter other people’s minds, emotions, and experiences.

  12. I believe in that nothing in life is free You get what you deserve Treat others with respect Never show your weakness Always work towards perfection Goals, Dreams, Desire. But I don’t believe in unreachable achievements. I believe in hard work is the key to success I believe in never giving up Goals, Dreams, Desire And I believe once a person sets their mind to do something, That something can be accomplished. --MB form: Personal Credo

  13. Angry black Tiger The angry black tiger prowls the streets. Hiding in the shadows, black as the night. Temper like a thunderstorm with bolts of lightning. Angry with a fierce growl. The angry black tiger lurks in your fears. The angry black tiger causes you those tears. The angry black tiger is always there. The anger is more than you can bare. Never mess with the angry black tiger. ---AD Form: Metaphor

  14. Tanka Poem Falling Leaves are orange Yellow Brown and Red. Autumn’s here. --CG

  15. A poem can also describe a place you have been or a dream you have had. Whatever you are feeling in that moment is what you want the people reading it later to feel. It’s fun not to worry about anything but putting your thoughts on paper. Poetry to me is an open window in a locked house Poetry to me is an escape route when you’re so very lost Poetry to me is the last key you try and it fits Poetry is art through words. There is just something about poetry that just reaches out and grabs your attention.

  16. I don’t understand Why we live for ourselves Why we are so forgetful Why we do the things we do But most of all… Why people are so unforgiving Why people are so greedy Why people have to hurt others What I understand the most is Why Christ died for me That you can find your freedom in a smile Why we go through rough times Why the sun will always rise and set That nothing can beat a sunrise in the morning --CN

  17. Memory Poem In my bed Trying to sleep Tired, grumpy, tense Too hot to sleep Agony --CB

  18. Dolphins Swimming Flying out of the water Graceful, quiet, stunning --AC form: formula

  19. CLERIHEW Sylvester Stalone Must wear good cologne And do many curls To get all the girls

  20. Letter Poem -- BP Dear Purse, Where have you gone? You left me at the shopping mall and never did return. I miss the days when you were always by my side, holding all my money and possessions in your little silk slots. I could fill you up with all my stuff and you always wanted more. I miss when people complimented us on how we matched so well. I miss you my dear little white purse; please come home and we will go shopping once more. Sincerely, Your owner

  21. I Don’t Understand I don’t understand Poetry, poets, or writers But most of all I don’t understand How people can support war Or think that the lives of “our” people are worth more than theirs What I do understand Is the joy of the sun And the need to be loved --LG

  22. You can convey your way of thinking and thoughts in many different forms and ways. It brings new meaning to your thoughts. For many, poetry is a hobby that they take as serious as a penguin in the snow..It’s enjoyable for most everybody Poetry is an assignment in English class that I have to do in order to get a good grade. It does let me write funny things down on a piece of paper and I like that. I guess poetry isn’t that bad.

  23. Sleep Though wakefulness my domain In sleep I remain For wakefulness is sleep One shallow and one deep I picked this poem because it is pretty deep. I can’t really explain what it means, but I’ve been looking at it for about three weeks trying to figure it out…I will eventually. There aren’t many lines to choose from to be my favorite, and they all kind of depend on each other.. internal rhyme, rhythm, verse

  24. CREDO POEM I believe in the hamburger, The banana cream pie, The onionless sandwich, The combo of pink lemonade and sprite, The free refill, 24 hour service, clean tables, and an order of Fries—to go. But I don’t believe in slimy lettuce, flat pop, and stale onion rings. I believe in staying up late, I believe in taking naps, I believe in the spoon, The snooze button, two blankets, and sleeping in your socks. And I believe in treating every day as if it were my last, because someday it will be. --CJ

  25. FAVORITE POEMS Pretty There is a pretty girl I selected this poem because it shows on the what the youth today have to look up face to, beautiful people they can never of the magazine become. My favorite lines are six, And seven and eight because all she can all I can see see is her imperfections against the are my dirty perfect person on the magazine. This hands is an example of Free Verse. --JD turning the page --Jewel, A Night Without Armor
