  6. Summary vs. analysis • A SUMMARY is an overview of a work. It is short and usually objective in tone. A summary typically tries to present the main ideas of a work, “presenting the substance” of the work but in a “condensed form.” The summary discusses the “WHAT” of a work.

  7. SUMMARY OF “a UNIQUE TAKE ON BEAUTY” • List the main ideas of the article by Donna Britt.

  8. Summary vs. analysis • An ANALYSIS is the “detailed examination of the elements or structure of something, typically as a basis for discussion or interpretation. An analysis typically wishes to discuss the “HOW” of a work.

  9. Analysis OF “a UNIQUE TAKE ON BEAUTY” • Now WRITE an analysis of “how” Britt makes her argument. Think of the tone words.
