  2. Introduction • Introduction • Task • Process • Evaluation The Battle of Thermopylae is not only one of the most prolific battles in Greek history, but the entirety of ancient history in general. It is a story of the few standing up against many; a story that is used as a perfect example of men choosing to fight and die for an idea that is bigger than themselves. The Battle of Thermopylae was a military defeat for the Greeks, but the story of how it happened seeks to change the definition of victory itself. However, like all great tales that have been told throughout time, there are truths that are exaggerated and truths are left behind in the pursuit of making sure the story being told is a good one.

Our class will be studying The Battle of Thermopylae in order to better understand the fact and fiction behind it. After this, you will be required to tell a story of significance from your own life and use myths to tell it. Be sure to choose certain parts to exaggerate while maintaining the integrity of what actually happened. The story should have a lesson that can be learned, but remain entertaining.

After comparing and contrasting the fact and fiction of the battle, think of your own story. First, write down the facts in order to catalog what really happened. After that, take the more significant parts and think of different ways to embellish the story. Make it exciting, but keep point of the story intact. Finally, conclude the story with a basic theme that incorporates a moral lesson for your tale.
