  2. First Things First: Those students attending 1776 should leave this meeting at its conclusion and report DIRECTLY to the auditorium foyer. Do NOT stop at your locker. Do NOT turn in your attendance slips here. Miss Stackhouse will collect them from you on the bus.

  3. National Computational Linguistics Contest Thursday, January 31st 10:00 am - 1:00 pm NAI Library All registered participants have received an email from Ms. Serdy with important information regarding the test administration. If you did not receive this email, please contact Ms. Serdy IMMEDIATELY!!

  4. AMERICAN MATH COMPETITION---THE AMC! Tuesday, February 5, 2012  Students  have registered with their      Honors PreCalculus teachers,      Miss Dulemba or Mrs. Trice       This test will be given at 7:30 a.m.      in the cafeteria.  You will miss     periods 1 and 2!      You must bring a #2 pencil

BRAVE NEW WORLD "Huge leaps in technology, medicine and genetics, as well as the challenges of sustaining a population of seven billion people, has created an unprecedented age of experimentation and discovery." --Professor Stephen Hawkings During the second semester, GOAL will present the five-part series BRAVE NEW WORLD. Discover the innovation and scientific breakthroughs that are transforming our lives in the 21st Century. The episodes showcase breakthroughs in machines, health, technology, the environment and biology.

  6. BRAVE NEW WORLD • The plan is to offer this interesting series during the lunch periods in the Collaboration Room. • You can select periods 5-6 OR 7-8. Pick the viewing that fits your schedule for the video and learning experience. • EAT and LEARN! You will only miss one class! You must bring a bag lunch! • Join us next week on Thursday, February 7th for the first session on MACHINES---A driverless car and a computer that fuses with our brain are just two of the new machines you will learn about! • The second session featuring cutting edge technology in medicine is scheduled for Tuesday, February 26th. • Forms are available for both!

AGH Open Heart Surgery Date: Thursday Feb 14, 2013 Time: 7:10 am - 1:30 pm If you are a sophomoreand are interested in a career in medicine, you won’t want to miss an opportunity to observe open heart surgery at AGH! You will watch the procedure from the operating room observation area. Following the surgery, you may have a chance to meet with a member of the surgical team and ask questions about the surgical procedure and careers in medicine. Sophomores wishing to participate in this observation MUST submit their name to the NAI GOAL office no later than Monday, Feb 4, 2013.If more than 15 students express an interest in attending this program, a lottery system will be used to select the students.

  8. Theater Arts Workshop!!! This is a chance to work with world class actors, learn how to drag someone by their hair or throw an on-stage punch, see yourself made up as an old person, try on amazing costumes and learn about the thousands of details involved in a staged performance.  AND...  It's just a really fun day -  Wednesday, February 27th. But ....HURRY!   Permission slips will only be accepted throughFriday.

  9. Shakespearean Monologue Scene Participants: There will be a meeting during Periods 5 and 6 in the Student Activites Office across from the cafeteria this Friday. Stop by the GOAL office and get your pass from Miss Stackhouse. They are hanging on her bulletin board for you. If you are participating in the Shakespearean Monologue Contest and have not yet registered on line, you must do so BY FRIDAY. Stop by the GOAL office during homeroom or your lunch period to register.

  10. Do you enjoy a good argument? Do you dig debate? Are you flexible in your thinking? Can you regulate your own contributions to maximize the power of your points? And one last question....... Are you confident enough in your own opinions to go toe with our guest participants..... Mr. Hildenbrand and Mr. Downs?

  12. Seeking Musicians, Photographers, Graphic Artists, Videographers, llustrators and Writers for NAI GOAL's first ever Creative Kitchen

  13. . What is the Creative Kitchen, you ask? Here is the recipe: Add one cupunlimited access to computer programs such as Garageband, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Illustrator, and a host of interactive websites to one chunkof time totally devoted to your personal creative project ~orchestrating eleven different instruments, ~creating a musicvideo for your band or any band you love, ~playing with your favorite photograph or piece of art using computer aided production and design, ~infusing your story with new life through a virtual reader or collaborator ~or diving in to any other creative project idea you have simmering in the back of your brain and yieldOne great GOAL Activity that promises to give you the space, time and resources to cook up something special! Creative Kitchen is coming your way this spring!

If you are a WRITER short fiction,  poetry, fanzine, blog, etc.  or an ARTIST illustration, photography, cartoons, etc.  consider working with Miss Stackhouse to fine tune your work for submission into  First Draft, NAI's own Literary Journal. You could receive GOAL credit for this independent option if you meet specific guidelines  in revising and submitting this work.

TEAMS is an annual competition giving students the opportunity to work collaboratively as a team to problem solve real-world engineering challenges, applying their math and science knowledge in practical, creative ways. * 1 Team of 4 to 8 students * 2 components to the competition: Part 1: 80 multiple choice questions Part II : 8 short answer tasks to solve The 2013 Challenge is...................................... Engineering a Secure Cyberspace Competition Date: February 21, 2013. Sign up in the GOAL office NOW!

Scenario Topics High School • By using countermeasures, engineers can design ways to deter phishing attempts by hackers. • Engineers can design safeguards that protect Web applications from attacks by hackers who want to insert malicious code or steal personal information. • Engineers can design protections to prevent vulnerable wireless networks from breaches by external attacks. • Engineers can design solutions to protect websites from organized cyber attacks by protesters whose intention is to slow or shut down a Web server. • Engineers can design methods to secure free Wi-Fi hotspots. • Engineers can protect computer systems from malicious software by designing protection measures that isolate and destroy these programs. • Engineers can prevent insider attacks and abuse by using technological methods and procedural controls that provide proper oversight by employees. • Engineers can design spyware countermeasures that protect computer users from digital espionage and potential system-wide failures. Complete scenarios are provided during the competition. The competition multiple choice and essays questions are based on these scenarios.

  17. Model       African               Union Wednesday April 17th Represent one of the countries in the African Continent and negotiate policy regarding displaced populations, natural resources, security, trade, water supply, natural disaster, foreign policy and other key issues! Please tell Mrs. Urbaniak if you are interested in participating and she will help you prepare for this engaging simulation at Pitt!
