Role of Technical Managers • Attend all Regional Teacher and Librarian Meetings • Decisions concerning staff performance, placement and evaluation • Recruitment and Retention of Staff • Liaison with Institutions and Project Authority • Liaison with School District 33 • Facilitate Professional Development • Problem Solving/Conflict Resolution

Benefits • CPP - max pensionable earnings $46,300 - max employer premium $2118.60 - max employee premium $2118.60 - all others 4.95% x annual income • EI - max insurable earnings $42,300 - max employer premium $1024.51 - max employee premium $731.79 - others (employer) 2.422% x annual income - others (employee) 1.73% x annual income • WCB - max chargeable per employee $68,500.00 - max employer premium $310.40

  7. Benefits – Morneau Sobeco • Cascade College will increase employer’s contribution from a max of $150 to $200 per employee per month • All employees must belong to the plan • Employees under $200 per month will have full coverage paid by Cascade College

  8. RRSP/Vacation/Illness Bank • Cascade College will maintain this bank • Amount varies – based on seniority • New employees - $1500/yr • Bank increases in $500 increments • Max for senior employees - $6000/yr • Cascade College will consult with staff and establish a fair grid

  9. Professional Development • Cascade College will contribute to an individual Pro D grant of $500 employee/yr • Expenditures must be pre-authorized and may be used for tuition, conferences, or expenses (including travel and meals) incurred for Pro D • Staff can accumulate Pro D grants for three years • Pro D money must be expended by end of this contract (Mar 31st 2012)

  10. Benefits – Vacation Leave • Under 5 yrs experience - two weeks annual vacation • Over 5 yrs experience - three weeks annual vacation • Over 10 yrs experience - four weeks annual vacation • Christmas Week is potentially an additional week subject to annual CSC approval (based on institutional needs) • Employer will pay for replacement staff (vacation only, not illness or emergency)

  11. Vacation Leave Replacement Costs • 22.5 FTE teachers - $26/hr x 7 hrs x 308 days = $56,056.00 • 2.8 FTE ancillary staff - $18.00/hr x 7 hrs x 33 days = $4,158.00 • 6.0 FTE librarian staff - $20/hr x 7 hrs x 86 days = $12,040.00

  12. Professional Development Fund • Cascade College has set aside $20,000 for professional development for teachers and ancillary staff • Cascade College has set aside $6,500 for professional development for librarians • Monies can be used for conference costs, related travel, speakers, TOC/librarian replacement and other Pro D initiated by employer

  13. Employer Paid Benefits • Total teacher benefits - $222,972.75 (excluding vacation leave) • Total ancillary staff benefits - $23,288.72 (excluding vacation leave) • Total librarian benefits - $64,852.00 (excluding vacation leave)

  14. Overall Budget • Previous Contract was $2,300,000 • Current Contract is $2,420,000 (+0.52%) • Total Salaries and Benefits $2,227,140 = 92.02% • Fixed Costs – set by CSC(library and Education materials, LD assessment) $123,800 = 5.12% • Operating Expenses $69,225 = 2.86%

  15. Salaries • We are implementing a 1.5% base wage raise for all staff (teachers, librarians and ancillary staff) effective April 1st. • We have established a pay scale that we believe is fair and equitable.

  16. Seniority All Newcastle seniority is carried forward Teachers with more than five years experience Teachers with more than ten years experience

Salaries • Teacher Salaries from $28.56/hr to $29.00/hr (+1.5%) • Teachers with more than 5 yrs seniority - $29.50/hr (+3.2%) • Teachers with more than 10 yrs seniority - $30.00/hr (+5.0%) • Librarians Salaries from $21.57/hr to $21.90/hr (+2.0%) • Ancillary Staff from $18.36/hr to $18.65/hr (+1.6%) • TOC rates - $26.00/hr (no change) • Replacement librarians - $20.00/hr • Replacement ancillary staff - $18.00/hr

  18. Lead Teacher Plan • Three positions – Mission/Ferndale/Kwikwexwehlp, Kent/Mountain, Matsqui/Pacific/Fraser Valley • Yearly appointments • Non-supervisory position • Represents staff requests for professional development, curriculum, technology implementation, teaching strategies etc. • Responsible for TOC callout • Will be expected to meet with Cascade College administration in school and after hours • Implement and supervise an inmate tutor program • Provide orientation/mentoring to new employees

  19. Lead Teacher Remuneration • Matsqui/FV Institution/Pacific RTC $7,000 per annum • Mission/Ferndale/Kwikwexwehlp $5,000 per annum • Kent/Mountain     $7,000 per annum (William Head will have a direct relationship with Technical Managers) • To apply for these positions, please submit a letter of request outlining your experience and expectations.
