  1. INC REPORT TO THE NANC March 2002 “INC Recommended Plan for Expanding the Capacity of the NANP” David Bench - INC Moderator

  2. INC NANPE DOCUMENTS • Interim NANP Expansion Report (INC 99-0127-023, December 1999) • Recommended Plan for Expanding The Capacity of the NANP (INC 02-0107-029, December 2001) • NANP Expansion Reference Document • Still in DRAFT status • All documents can be found at: www.atis.org/clc/inc/incdocs.htm

  3. KEY ASSUMPTIONS • Uniform (10-digit) dialing to be implemented prior to expansion • The existing “D” Digit not be released prior to expansion • Existing prefixes (e.g., 0, 1, 011, 101-XXXX) to remain prior to and after expansion

  4. NANP EXPANSION RECOMMENDATION • INC Recommended NANP Expansion Plan Format • NXX(X) + (X)NXX + XXXX • NXX(X) a four-digit NPA with (X) the additional digit • (X)NXX a four-digit CO Code with (X) the additional digit • XXXX a four-digit line number • Here, the value • N represents digits 2 through 9, and • X represents digits 0 through 9 • Note: The new F Digit (sixth digit of the expanded plan) takes on the values of 2 through 9 to allow a future expansion effort if and when needed.

  5. NANP EXPANSION RECOMMENDATION • Transition Method 1 (both digits implemented simultaneously) • NXX(X) + (X) NXX + XXXX (INC recommends this approach) • Transition Method 2 (phased approach with NPA implemented first) • NXX (X) + NXX + XXXX • NXX (X) + (X) NXX + XXXX • Transition Method 3 (phased approach with CO Code implementation first) • NXX + (0)NXX + XXXX • NXX(1) + (X) NXX + XXXX
