  18. Nonfiction Writing can: Compare and Contrast two topics Like Unlike But In contrast On the other hand However Both Also Too As well as Describe a Topic To begin with for example for instance most important In front beside Sequence the time Order of a Topic first, Second Not long after After that Next At the same time Finally Following Cause and Effect Therefore Consequently So This led to As a result Because If…then Problem/Solution Therefore Consequently So This led to As a result Because If…then

  19. Know your text structures! They help you identify the AUTHOR’S PURPOSE and MAIN IDEA

  20. Description Problem/Solution Compare/Contrast Sequence /Time Order Cause/Effect It becomes a big problem when you leave your homework and projects until the last minute. Your parents get angry at you and that only stresses you out more. A better solution is to try to complete it right after school, so you can avoid feeling overwhelmed. If you do your homework right away when you get home from school, then you can enjoy the rest of the evening without stress. As a result, you are free to watch TV, chat with your friends or play sports without worrying about your homework for the next day. Social studies homework is usually easier than science homework. In social studies we usually have less than one worksheet to complete, however in science we have larger tasks, like lab report writing. Both subjects are interesting, but science is definitely harder.

  21. Description Problem/Solution Compare/Contrast Sequence /Time Order Cause/Effect I have a really efficient routine for doing my homework. As soon as I get home I put my backpack right next to my desk. Then I quickly get a snack to boost my energy. Not long after, I crack open my assignment pad and see what I already completed during period 9. I begin with my easiest subject first and finish with my most difficult. That way, if I need help, it will be fresh in my mind for when my parents get home. Homework is the worst part of my life. To begin with, I spend six hours in school. I work all day with no recess and then have to come home to do more work! Homework is annoying, pointless and downright unfair.

  22. Turn to a partner and tell them one thing that you need to do when reading nonfiction. Be prepared to share with the class.
