  1. What to Know Before Horse Riding in Park City Many people don’t realize what a serious workout horse riding is before they try. It may seem like just the horse is getting in a good exercise, but it takes leg strength, core stability and balance to be good at horse riding. Riding horses has been around for many years and it is actually a great way to spend quality time in the beautiful outdoors of Park City. Before jumping in the saddle, there are a couple basic tips a first timer should know.

  2. People have been horse riding since around 3500 BCE, and have evolved immensely. Getting into the saddle used to be for getting work done, then moved to recreational activities. Most people enjoy horse riding to compete, have fun or even exercise. One important thing to note is that there are 2 common types of ways to ride. The first is English style which is a smaller saddle that is less bulky which results in closer communication with the horse. The next is Western style which was originally used by traditional cowboys that prevailed on long cattle rides. The western saddle is known to be more comfortable and stable. New riders will be completely out of their comfort zone when getting into the saddle of a horse. It is important to have the correct position the whole ride. Riders should squeeze the horse with their legs to lead and sit up tall to be able to use back and leg muscles. The next tip is to ensure the riders safety. First time riders should research local reputable stables in Park City. Riders can research by checking out websites, reviews, and calling the stables for any questions they might have. The next important part is to dress appropriately for the excursion. Typically this entails long pants to protect the riders legs, and close-toed shoes that obtain a heel which allows for the foot to stay in the stirrups. It is best to wear simple and basic clothes that can get dirty. Riders also need the proper equipment such as a helmet. Horse riding helmets differ from normal bike riding protection and the stable should be able to provide the proper helmet.
