PurposeCAL FIRE/USFS Forest Products Utilization and Marketing Agreement • Assist govnt. agency personnel and other partners identify, evaluate and monitor opportunities and public investments to utilize woody biomass resulting from forest fuels and thinning treatments; • Provide technical assistance and referrals to improve utilization and value of logs and woody biomass removed from public, tribal and private lands; • Leverage partnership arrangements, and public and private investments;

  4. Why Stress Utilization? • Opportunity to partially defray costs of treatment and increase acres treated; • Carbon neutral energy; • Carbon sequestration in wood, mulch and soil products; • Reduce smoke and particulates from land management activities; • Maintain industry infrastructure to assist in land management activities;

ApproachCAL FIRE/USFS Utilization/Marketing Agreement • Evaluate vegetation treatments and potential for woody biomass removal; • Evaluate private contractor and govnt. capacity and equipment; • Assess current and potential markets for logs and woody biomass; • Formulate understanding of key barriers or challenges, opportunities and players; • Provide feedback to agency personnel, industry and partners about how to maintain or increase utilization;
