  6. This is a practice-based project • Grown out of teaching and research • Consists of wiki-centric tools for writing, recording, sharing and translating traditional and new children’s music and lyrics • It is envisioned as a platform for… SongChild.org Project

  7. “The goal of Songchild.org is to leverage web 2.0 social technologies to encourage the largest possible notions of community, creativity and personal expression” (Nolan & Bakan, 2008 , P.3). The Goal of Songchild.org

  8. Songchild.org enables children to participate • Unlike other forms of Web 2.0 interaction this program does and will not require them to comprise their personal safety by sharing personal information • It extends children’s voices, encourages many forms of literacy and has potential to expand children's learning experiences Enables Children to Participate!

  9. Songchild.org holds music with sung lyrics as its current focus. • Music is a universal human phenomenon. • It transcends boundaries of diversity Music as its current focus!

  10. Leviton and Sachs are recent contributors to the discussion of the primacy of music in human experience and the brain. • Human beings are music creatures • This hard wiring is personalized in our narratives. • Songs contain text, creating images and stories in word, tone rhythm and pitch. Primacy Of Music In Human Experience And The Brain

  11. Question to help… HELP!!! • Is there a song in your iPod? • Is there a song from childhood? • Is there a song you sing to your children? • Is there a song that helps you write an essay? • Is there a song that reminds you of your husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend or ex (eek..)? • Maybe even a song that reminds you of a pet? Think of a rhythm, tone, timbre, melody that creates a memory for you?
