  1. English 1p & 2p Syllabus Part 1: Rules Mrs. Rice lrice1@ggusd.us mrs.rice.santiago@gmail.com

  2. “Rules” • In addition to school rules • Apply to everyone in class • Help make our class run smoothly • Protect everyone in class • Encourage proper behavior • Give everyone rights • Not following rules • 1 min after class for each instance with no pass given • Teleparent (at teacher discretion) • Parent conference for repeat offenders

  3. Ready “Rule” • Come to class ready to learn. • Supplies • Awake and alert • Positive attitude

  4. Respect “Rule” • Respect the rights and property of others • Everyone has the right to their own things • Ask politely to borrow or look at something • Speak politely and respectfully to each other • Honor each other’s rights

  5. Request “Rule” • Ask for help when needed • Raise your hand whenever you have a question or want clarification • Ask team members during group work • See the teacher if you need help with supplies • Get help • During class • At break • Before or after school

  6. Responsibility “Rule” • Strive to act responsibly at all times • Take responsibility for your actions • Accept consequences • Apologize if needed

  7. School Rules • I follow the school rules. • These rules are the hardest for students to follow: • No electronics (phones, iPods) • School rules say that if I take it from you, your parents must pick it up from the office. • 2ndoffense means that your device will be in the office until June!!! • I will take them if I hear or see any part of them. • You will also be given a minute after class • Be on time!! • If you step in the room after the bell has stopped ringing, you will be sent to get a tardy slip. You will also be given a minute after class • No, you may not put your things down; just go. • Do not come tardy with food or drink. If you do, you will place the food or drink behind my desk and get it at the end of class.

  8. School Rules • Dress Code • No under-clothing can be showing • No clothing depicting drugs or alcohol • You will be sent to the office • Absences • You must clear your absences at the attendance office the morning you come back. • If you don’t clear it, it turns into a truancy, and you get detention, Saturday school, or in-house suspension

  9. Passes • You make use the hall pass to use the restroom when you need to. • If it becomes a habit that you are leaving class, you will need to stay a minute after class. • If you take too long, you will need to stay a minute because you may have missed something while you were gone. • If you need to step out of class to blow your nose, you do not need a pass as long as you are right outside the door.

  10. So, can we eat in here? • Yes, but… • You may not leave even a scrap of trash or the whole class loses the privilege for the rest of the quarter. If you clean up after yourself, we will get to eat all year. • You may be asked to take food trash to the outside trash can because we have an ant problem. • You may not share or sell food after the bell. • You may not drink a drink that doesn’t have a lid. • NO CORN NUTS!!

  11. Any Q’s? • We will cover rules regarding assignments and grading when we get to the next power point. 
