  2. Scenario #1 • Gina and Bill had been dating for four years when she found him cheating on her with her best friend. Ever since they broke up Gina has been locked up in her room watching soap operas and eating Blue Bell ice cream. Her friends try to cheer her up but her feelings of worthlessness leave her indecisive about the variety of options presented. She has put on ten pounds in two weeks, and refuses to get out of bed. • What disorder is Gina suffering from?

  3. Scenario #2 • John is extremely nervous about his family’s upcoming trip to Hawaii. He has a fear of flying, but he has been taking classes to help. He understands that flying is the safest way to travel, and that on the surface his fears seem foolish. However, no matter how hard he tries he cannot shake the anxiety that is brought on every time he thinks about the trip. As the trip draws near he becomes more and more paralyzed at the thought of getting on an airplane. It has begun to affect his job performance and daily routine at home. • What disorder is John suffering from?

  4. Scenario #3 • Lately Laura has notices some very strange things happening to her. She cannot seem to focus her mind on anything as her thoughts are race from one subject to the next. She has difficulty with abstract ideas, and talks in loose associations. Her speech patterns have begun to irritate her friends and she has found herself as the social outcast at school. Recently she has begun to recognize a strange voice that has been mocking her lack of abilities. She knows the voice is coming from her own head but cannot seem to make it stop. She wants to get help because she is afraid that she is going to hurt herself and does not know how to control her urges. • What disorder is Laura suffering from?

  5. Scenario #4 • . Throughout the day Roger has the overwhelming urge to maintain a clean work space and feels a bit of anxiety every time someone touches the items on his desk. After sanitizing the infected item Roger rushes to the restroom to wash his hands only to return to his desk and to clean the item again. Overall this behavior consumes about 3 hours of Rogers work day and he is nervous that his boss will punish him for his lack of productivity. Roger understands that he is being foolish in his need for cleanliness but it is the only way he can feel comfortable at his desk. • What disorder is Roger suffering from?

In the spring you would have thought he won the lottery as he was so full of life and excited about some new internet opportunity that he was vigorously pursuing. He even took out a second mortgage on his house to invest into his venture. However something must have happened over the summer because Bob has been completely miserable lately. He has fell into a deep depression and his friends and family are beginning to think they may have to hospitalize him if he does not bounce back soon. • What disorder is Bob suffering from?
