  1. Starter Why does the tower fall down? How could this relate to our lesson today?

  2. What do we mean by pillars? • A pillar is something which supports a building, and stops it falling down. • The 5 Pillars of Islam are 5 things which a Muslim would do to show they were committed to the religion of Islam

  3. Learning Objective To be able to describe the Five Pillars of Islam. To explain why the Five Pillars are important to Islam and to individual Muslims. • Key Words • Shahadah • Salah • Zakat • Sawm • Hajj

  4. Success Criteria • I can express and demonstrate my knowledge using key vocabulary to describe the Five Pillars. • I can express and demonstrate the importance of the Five Pillars to Islam and individual Muslims.

  5. The Five Pillars of Islam are five basic acts considered compulsory by Muslims. They are a sign of commitment to the faith.

  7. Task • 1person in your group is going to be given the role of an ‘expert organiser’ who will act as a teacher and will stay at your station. • The others will be runners, who try to find out about each of the pillars. • You will then bring all of your findings together in your group and present them on an A3 sheet. • The group with the most accurate and detailed info wins.
