Iowa Quality Preschool Program Standards (IQPPS): Foundations

This program standard focuses on the ongoing assessment of children's learning and development, with an emphasis on communication with families and cultural sensitivity. Assessment results are used to inform teaching and program improvement. Families are given opportunities to contribute to the assessment process by sharing observations from home. State-funded programs in Iowa use GOLD, a multi-domain child assessment tool, to track development and communicate with families. The program also utilizes IGDIs, a literacy screening tool, for identifying children in need of immediate intervention. Supporting resources include information on GOLD, Iowa TIER access, and GOLD documentation app.

Assessment results are used to benefit children by informing teachers about sound decisions, teaching, and program improvement.
