  3. Board Structure • 12 Directors • Chairman + 5 Directors appointed by the Minister • CEO • 3 nominated by Dublin City Council • 2 elected by employees

Purpose • Facilitate Trade • Manage control and operate the harbour • Provide infrastructure to facilitate ships and the movement of goods and passengers • Context • Island nation where 99% by volume of goods are imported and exported through the states ports • Dublin handles 38% of goods through Irish ports

  5. Dublin Port Company in context • Handling 27m tonnes of throughput • Revenue in the order of €62m p.a. • Operating Profit in the order of €22m p.a. • Fixed Assets in excess of €200m • Over 200 employees ( port estate 3,500 to 4,000)

  7. Throughput • 5 year growth 28.2% • Corporatised 1997 • 1996 – 15.2m tonnes • Growth since Corporatisation = 77% • 1992 watershed – stevedoring rationalisation • Throughput in 1992 was 6.7m tonnes • 4 fold increase

  8. RoRo Units • 5 year growth 28.5% • Corporatised 1997 • 1996 – 341,000 units • Growth since Corporatisation = 85% • 1992 watershed – stevedoring rationalisation • 1992 – 116,000 units • Increased by a factor of 5.4
