  2. Why was this site selected? • Provides a fun and educational trip • Other bands in the area have done this trip with great success • Familiar location • Reasonable price

  3. Who will be performing? • We are one of many bands during the timeframe • May be other bands from Central PA during this timeframe

  4. Just the Facts - Travel! • Travel Dates: April 25 to April 28, 2008 • Departing from Harrisburg • Tour Includes access to all parks in Disney World - Orlando, Florida

  5. Just the Facts – Student Commitment! • Anticipate practicing one day a week starting early in 2008 • Student must make a commitment to Marching Band in 2007 and 2008

Just the Facts – Financial • Passport cost – not applicable • Visa cost – not applicable • Base Trip cost - $600.00 - $700.00 • Includes (transportation [coaches or airfare], All-Star Hotel, ground transfers, ONE meal in Disney, park entrance fees, clinics [to be announced]) • Fuel Surcharge – included in base trip cost • Departure tax – included in base trip cost • Spending money – approximately $200.00 - $300.00 whatever your child will need for souvenirs and other meals (only 1 meal/day is provided) • Payment schedule – Must commit by November 1st

  7. Just the Facts – Fund Raising • There will be specific fund raising for this trip • There is no plans for Corporate Sponsorship for this trip • No Fund Raising commitment required to those who just want to pay the full amount

  8. Just the Facts – Staff/Chaperones • Staff traveling • Mr. Goldsborough • Percussion Staff person (to be announced) • Guard Staff person (to be announced) • Chaperones – follow WSSD board policy of 1 for every 10 students

  9. Just the Facts – Medical • We will take at least one medical person as a Chaperone (to be announced) • No pre-trip vaccinations necessary

  10. WSSD Commitment • Considered a traditional trip • Requires WSSD board approval (not obtained yet) • Limited community involvement for this trip

  12. How did this all start? • Ms. Ji has a close friend on Beijing Olympic Committee – en.beijing2008.cn • A Large Parade was being planned • Ms. Ji suggested they include some American bands • Only a few invitations were sent out

  13. How were we selected? • Bands of America Site • Credential Review • References from other bands

  14. Who is CACBC? • CACBC is Chinese American Cultural Bridge Center – www.cacbc.org • Located in Arlington Heights, IL • This group specializes in concert tours in China

  15. Who will be performing? • We are 1 of 3 bands during the timeframe • We are the only band from Central PA during this timeframe • We will be traveling as one unit – West Shore • Redland is providing additional information about the trip on their Website – www.redlandmusicboosters.com

What an experience? • How many other students in Central PA can say that they performed in China just before the 2008 Summer Olympics? • How many people would travel to China if it was not for this opportunity? • How many students in the United States can say that they have performed a musical selection on the Great Wall of China?

  17. Just the Facts - Travel! • Travel Dates: July 8/9 to July 18/19, 2008 • Departing from JFK, Newark or Washington • Transportation to the airport is something the boosters need to discuss • Cities in tour – Beijing and Tianjin, China

  18. Just the Facts – Student Commitment! • Anticipate practicing one day a week starting in the Spring of 2008 • Student must make a commitment to Marching Band in 2007 and 2008

Just the Facts – Financial • Passport cost – approximately $112.00 • ($67.00 passport agency, $30.00 postal agency, $15.00 pictures) Prices vary depending on picture cost • Visa cost – approximately $50.00 • (entry into China) • Base Trip cost - $2,400 • Includes (airfare, tour guides, 3 star hotels, ground transfers, all meals in China, entrance fees [for museums, parks, historical sites], Festival entrance, performance arrangements, venues, special dinners, instrument shipping [not cargo], legal permissions) • Tag-a-longs pay an additional $200.00

Just the Facts – Financial • Fuel Surcharge – approximately $200.00/250.00 • Departure tax – approximately $12.00 • Spending money – whatever your child will need for souvenirs • Payment schedule – • 1st payment due June 15th for $100.00 • Next payment due Sept/Oct - $800.00 -$1,000.00 • Final payment due May 2008

  21. Just the Facts – Fund Raising • There will be fund raising for both RL and CC • There is interest in Corporate Sponsorship but PLEASE do NOT depend on that money • No Fund Raising commitment required to those who just want to pay the full amount

  22. Just the Facts – Staff/Chaperones • Staff traveling • Mr. Goldsborough • Mr. Starrett • Percussion Staff person (to be announced) • Guard Staff person (to be announced) • Chaperones – follow WSSD board policy of 1 for every 10 students – may count staff as part of chaperones

  23. Just the Facts – Medical • We will take at least one medical person as a Chaperone (to be announced) • Check with your local doctor for recommended pre-trip vaccinations

WSSD Commitment • Dr. Domenic would like to travel with the band to China • Mr. Garguila is extremely excited about this trip • Administration has approached both directors about what equipment & uniforms they will need to go to China • The community is excited for CC & RL to represent Central PA in China

  25. What’s the catch? • We must select ONE trip! • We must select what is best for the music program at Cedar Cliff
