Area covered under the watershed programme Total micro-watersheds in Manipur -No. of micro-watersheds - 1528 -Area in Ha. - 22,32,769 Total watershed covered -No. of micro-watersheds - 381 -Area in Ha. - 2,58,493 Watersheds to be covered( out of treatable) -No. of micro-watersheds - 1147 -Area in Ha. - 19,74,276 Watersheds proposed to be covered -No. of micro-watersheds - 332 -Area in Ha. - 2,30,862

  4. Land Uses Major Land covers are Forest Cover and land with or without scrub forest . Wasteland treatable area – 5394.12 sq/km of the total geographical area(24.16%). Land with forest blank- 0.39% % of the total geographical area, Land with Scrub Forest- 6.25% Others-Shifting cultivation abandoned-0.34 % Wastelands- scrub Land Dense scrub- 10.46% Wastelands- Scrub land open scrub- 4.31%

Agro-Climatic zone covers of Project Area • Name of the Agro-Climatic zone covers project area - sub-tropical • Soil Type -(fine silt, clay loam and laterite) • Topography hilly terrain with moderate to very steep slopes • Average rainfall in mm (preceding 5 years average -Ranges from 361.65 mm in Senapati to 2248 mm at Churchandpur Major Crops -Paddy, Maize, Pulses, etc

MAJOR REASONS FOR SELECTION OF WATERSHED To contain Jhum Cultivation Better Livelihood through income generation and resource management To harvest rain water for irrigation, households use and pisci-culture To restore ecological balance in the wasteland areas by developing wastelands into arable lands and developing natural resources
