Houghton Mifflin Reading Series • District-Wide Adopted Reading Series. • We read different stories each week and complete different types of activities that correlate with the story read. • The activities pertain to the academic subject areas of reading and language arts. • We read from different themes. • The themes are used to address FCAT benchmarks as well as to better help you experience reading different types of literature.

  7. Our Classroom Rules 1.) If you have a question to ask raise your hand and then wait to be acknowledged. 2.) Stay in your seat unless you have permission to do otherwise. 3.) Never use vulgar or offensive language in our classroom. 4.) Keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself. 5.) ALWAYS FOLLOW OUR CLASSROOM RULES!!!

Consequences For Breaking The Classroom Rules • 1st • Verbal warning • Your cloth pin will stay on the green light. • 2nd • My Consequence Resolution Plan, Reflective Essay • You will move your cloth pin to the yellow light. - 3rd • Parental Contact • Detention after school • You will move your cloth pin to the red light. - 4th • Referraland to the principal’s office *** A student will also be issued a detention If he/she fails to complete three consecutive home learning assignments.

  10. Traffic LightAlways obey the rules and procedures!!! • The traffic light is located in the teacher’s corner, which is next to my desk. • Red Light. If I call your name 2 times or you break 2 or more rules and procedures, you will move your cloth pin to the red light. You receive no good time ticket or yellow post-it for the day. • Yellow Light. If I call your name 1 time or you break 1 rule or procedure , you will move your cloth pin to the yellow light. You will receive a yellow post-it for the day. • Green Light. If you follow the rules/procedures your name will remain on the green light. You will receive 1 good time ticket for the day. ***By following the rules and procedures, you will be able to redeem your good time ticket or yellow post-it for a treat in Mr. Sanchez’s treasure chest. ***

Good Time Ticket/Yellow Post-It • Write your name on the good time ticket or yellow post-it • ALWAYS WORK AT FOLLOWING THE RULES AND PROCEDURES!!! • Once writing your name on the good time ticket or yellow post-it, place it in the cup according to your class period. • Good Time Ticket = (Green Light) • Yellow Post-It = (Yellow Light) • NO GOOD TIME TICKET/YELLOW POST-IT = (Red Light)

  16. Mr. Sanchez what do I need to do if I have a question to ask? • Raise your hand and wait to be acknowledged. • Once I call on you, ask your question. • Wait until I respond to your question before you begin to talk. I want to hear your questions, but I can only answer one question at a time.

  17. Entering the room • Please enter quietly • Have a seat • Take out your materials • Begin bell work assignment • Copy the home learning assignment(s) in your home learning agenda.

Getting your attention/Quieting down I will: • Raise my hand, this means that everyone in the room must stop what they are doing. 1st Clear your hands of any materials 2nd Stay still 3rd Look directly at me 4th Be prepared to listen to what I have to say to you • I’m trying to get your attention • I will begin to speak

Using the bathroom/water fountain • When you need to use the bathroom, use the sign language symbol for t. • When you need to use the water fountain, use the sign language symbol for w. • YOU MUST WAIT until I give you the sign, by shaking my head up and down, to use the bathroom or water fountain.

  20. Exiting the room • Make sure that your desk is cleared of any materials. • Look around your desk and pick up any trash from the floor. • Take all the materials that you will need to your next class. • Line up in the line quietly. • No one should ever talk while in the line.

  21. Standing in line • Always look ahead of you • Never look to the sides • Standing in line is NOT THE TIME TO TALK WITH FRIENDS OR OTHERS THAT PASS YOU BY • Always make sure you are quiet, you need to be able to listen to my instructions.

  22. Entering and exiting the cafeteria • You are to always enter the cafeteria quietly. • Only I will dismiss you from the cafeteria. • DO NOT GET UP from your seat until I tell you to do so. • You will line up quietly against the wall, once we have exited the cafeteria.

Special Guideline • This classroom is a “No Whining Zone.” That means that there will be no whining, for ANY reason. • This is a time for you to receive an education that will help you achieve your future goals. • This is, however, a “Learning Zone.” You will be be able to learn in a classroom that is caring and respectful.

  24. Guideline Infraction • You will be writing a reflection essay, using the “My Consequence Resolution Plan” handout I gave you. • You will need to fill out a student responsibility card.

  25. Following Guidelines will result in: • Verbal Praise • A Stress free learning environment • An enjoyable and orderly classroom atmosphere

Attendance and Tardies • It is very important that you come to class!!! • If you come to school after 8:30, you are late!!! • 1st tardy-free pass • 2nd tardy- warning • 3rd tardy-500 word essay • It is very important that you come to school on a daily basis. If you miss school then you miss out on learning valuable information.

  29. When you are tardy • Enter quietly • Place the tardy slip my desk • Your tardy slip must have the time you arrived at my class on it • Have a seat and take out your materials

Make Up Work • Fill out the student responsibility card. • If you are absent it is your responsibility to make up the work you missed. • Go to the absent tray, located next to the sink, and look for your name. Your name will be labeled on the material(s) you missed in my class. • If is not made up and turned in on the assigned date, your grade will be a zero. • Tests/quizzes missed will be made up before or after school the following day. • You have 24 hours to make up all work.

  32. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS… • Follow our classroom rules, procedures, and guidelines. • Be prepared to learn. • Be prepared for class. Bring with you to class everyday your pencil/pen, paper, notebook, and silent reading book. • Read your silent reading book during silent reading. • Ask questions!!!! There is no such things as silly questions. • Be courteous and respectful to your fellow classmates. • Use Black or Blue ink only. • Use lined paper. Make sure that you have loose leaf paper.

Conduct and Effort • Conduct is your behavior in class. • A,B,C,D,F • Effort- how much intensity you put into class including home learning, class work, tests, and participation. • 1 (the best), 2 (satisfactory), 3 (unsatisfactory) • If I speak to you more than once each day, your conduct grade will be reduced.

Always write the assigned number I gave you on your papers.

Home Learning • Is your responsibility to do the home learning everyday!!! • The home learning helps you learn and improve on the lessons we are learning in our class. • If you do not do your home learning assignment(s) you will need to fill out the form Oh, No You’ve Been Green Slipped. • You will receive a strike on the home learning chart. *** A student will also be issued a detention If he/she fails to complete three consecutive home learning assignments. Three strikes

  45. Home Learning Folder • The home learning folder is red. • All of your home learning will be in your home learning folder. • On the left hand pocket of the folder is the “Out” section. All of the home learning that is complete goes in this section. • On the right hand pocket of the folder is the “In” section. The home learning that needs to be completed will go in this section.

Interactive Classroom (Smart Board) • I will be using the interactive smart board to provide you instruction in reading and language arts. • You are NOT ALLOWED to touch the smart board screen without my permission. • Never look directly at the projection lamp while the projector in on. This can cause serious injury to your eyes. • Failure to follow these rules will cause you not be able to use the smart board in our class.

Classroom Library • Library day in our classroom is every Tuesday. • You are allowed to check out two books from our classroom library. • All books are due the following Tuesday. • You must check out the book by completing the classroom library check-out binder procedures. • In the classroom library check-out binder, you must write the name of the book, the class period of your class, and the genre of the book. • If you need help, please see our appointed classroom librarian. • If you do not follow these procedures, you will not be allowed to check out books.

  49. Entering and exiting the computer lab • You are to always enter the computer lab quietly. • DO NOT USE THE COMPUTER UNTIL I instruct you do so. You need to listen to the learning activity for the day. • Always follow our classroom rules while at the computer rules. • Failure to adhere to these rules will cause you not to participate in the computer lab activity for the day.
