Document Author: Brad QuayDate: January 27, 2010Project: Waukegan Port Authority Boat Ramp Contact Information: Brian ODell - Equipment Used: (1) Hamilton Transaction Kiosk, (1) Data Access NetworkCustomer Interaction Process: The customer pulls up to the HTK with their boat in tow. The HTK processes a cash, credit card or Customer Value Card transaction for the specified amount. In 2009 the amount was $17.00. The HTK then dispenses a metal token that the client uses to re-enter the boat ramp area to retrieve their boat. They have plans to raise the fee to $20 per drop in 2010.Season Passes The Port Authority required customers who wanted to purchase a season pass to go to the Port Authority office to purchase their card. The charge for a season pass in 2009 was $130 unlimited access. They believe that they probably lost money at that amount for the season. They have plans to raise it to $260 in 2010. Background:Previously the boat ramp was operated with an attendant and/or an honor box. They were unable to run the ramp 24 hours with this set up. They eventually made an agreement with a partner company to manage the site. This company was getting 20% of the money from the location, plus whatever theft may have been taking place. Brian got the idea for using an automated station here when he used a parking garage in Chicago one time. It took them a year to figure out how to re-work the traffic flow on the lot to have one entrance for the 8 ramps where boats can be dropped. In 2008 they made $66,000 after they paid the managing partner company their 20%.In 2009 with the HTK, they took in $93,000 with no partner to pay. Total project cost to re-do the property to accommodate one lane, and the purchase of the HTK, DAN, camera system etc. was $89,155.
