  2. Preparation to become an MYP School • Continue 8 classes • Called “Groups” • Class names will change • More required classes • Continue advisory • One new course

  3. Group 1: Language Arts

  4. Group 2: Mandarin, French, Spanish, ESOL

  5. Group 3: Social Studies

  6. Group 4: Science

  7. Group 5: Math

  8. Group 6: Music, drama, visual arts

  9. Group 7: new! (Similar to mod. Tech.)

  10. Group 8: Health & PE

  11. Your schedule • Group 1 – Language arts • Group 2 – 2nd language • Group 3 – social studies • Group 4 –Sciences • Group 5 – Mathematics • Group 6 – performing Arts
 • Group 7 – Design
 • Group 8 – Health & Physical Education

  12. What Stays the same? • All core classes • All second languages (Mandarin, spanish, french, & Esol)

  13. What changes? • Mandarin “levels” become phases 1-6 • Choice between Performing arts: Band, Choir, Strings, & Drama • Drama is a year-long course • All MS students take one semester of art (includes photography) & one semester of Design • Gr. 9 & 10 students take a full year of Design & may choose a full year of art as an elective • Pe is a required year-long course. Dance is a unit of penot a full course.

Grade 7  Year 2 Choices • Choose one year-long performing arts course: • Drama • Choir • Strings • Beginning Band • Intermediate band • 2nd language • New students can choose: mandarin, spanish, french, or esol • Returning students continue the same language • Can receive special permission for a language change
