Verbs. Helping Verbs reviewing action/linking verbs. There are 3 different kinds of verbs. linking. action. helping. An action verb shows action. It tells what the subject of the sentence does. Action Verbs Bill hit the ball. The cat purred softly. I walk to school.

  7. Linking Verbs We are hungry. He was late to school. The winner is Johnny. The rose smells good.

  8. A helping verbhelps a main verb. • The helping verb comes before the main verb. • Both of them together are called the verb phrase.

  9. Helping/Main Verbs I ameating my lunch. Ed hastaken the test. We weretalking.
