  4. Where do we start? • 2001-Palliative care protocol published in the Journal of Neonatology. • 10-step protocol to ease suffering of babies and mothers alike • Lactation not addressed

  5. Pregnancy Loss • When babies are born at term, it is the pediatrician that focuses on infant feeding with the parents, not the obstetricians. • When a pregnancy ends without a live baby, there is no pediatrician. • Who talks to mom about her breasts? • No one.

  6. History • Prior to the 1990’s the method of choice was bromocriptine. • Side effects, including DVTs, seizures and other brain-related issues caused it to be taken off the market for lactation supression.

  7. Research??? • There is no solid research on the efficacy of any lactation suppression methods, either pharmacological or non-pharmacological.
