  26. Major Functional Components CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design

  27. Content Management System Joomla • An open source that maintains and stores website content • Easy to update • No technical skills are required Used by business corporations, non-profit organizations, educational facilities and more CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design

  28. Content Management System CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design

  29. Database Schema CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design

  30. Entity Relationships CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design

  31. Graphical User Interface CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design

  32. Marketing CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design

  33. Risks Assessment C1: Product Interest- The customer may still not be enticed to provide new content and the site becomes outdated again. • Impact: The content will grow stale and the website will be in the same state it is in now. • Mitigation: There is not much we can do on our end other then provide the best and easiest to use tool to encourage use after we hand it over. CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design

  34. Risks Assessment C2: Maintenance - If the new website runs into major issues the Virginia Academy of Science may not have anyone with the technical expertise fix them. • Impact: The result could be as simple as broken pictures and links, to lost data or total site failure. • Mitigation: Again this can be assisted by a simple to use site. Also the Virginia Academy of Science has suggested hiring an intern after launch. CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design

  35. Risks Assessment T1: Software Updates- Browser, Java, adobe and other plugin updates • Impact: Updates to dependent software could cause pages to load incorrectly or not at all and damage security. • Mitigation: Make sure the website is dynamic and easily updated for new software. CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design

  36. Risks Assessment T2: Secure systems- With the introduction of the database and the online applications for memberships/grants/scholarships there will be private data that is at risk of theft. • Impact: Results in theft in member data and could result in identity fraud. • Mitigation: Follow strict security guidelines so that members and applicants are given the safest environment possible. CS410 - Virginia Academy of Science Team (V.A.S.T.) - Design

  37. Risks Assessment T3: Data Loss- If the new database should fail then a considerable amount of important data could be lost. • Impact: Worst case scenario, if the servers fail then all the data that populates the front end is lost and the website becomes emptied. • Mitigation: Ensure a redundant backup system that keeps data in a secondary location incase data loss should occur.
