  2. Assistive technology is a type of technology utilized to improve the functional performance of an individual with a disability. AT is utilized to aid in communication, academics, being mobile, seating, & accessing materials Assistive Technology (AT)

  3. Assistive Technology Service Law Assistive Technology Services include support from the IEP team to oversee each step of the AT, such as: • Evaluating the need for a device/ make sure it is the correct device • Acquiring the device • Servicing the device • Coordinating the students’ therapies and education of/with the device • Providing instruction and guidance for anyone involved in the use of the device

  4. Assistive Technology is for any student with any disability. The IEP team will decide what devices, services an/or accommodations would assist the student to be successful and meet the desired goals within the curriculum.

Examples of Assistive Technology Devices are: • Toys • Text reader/ word prediction software • Desktop easel • Book scanner/ reader/ magnifier • Alternative communication device • Reacher/ grabber • Braille book/ writer; Braille display/ input device • Choice making devices • Dycem – non-slip surface covering • Handheld magnifier • Audio books • Mathematical equation solver • Alternative keyboard & customized index finger extension • Card holder • Joystick input device • On-screen keyboard

  7. Cochlear Implant A small implant that provides a sense of sound to one who is profoundly deaf.

  8. This device performs many functions to to aid with those who are blind or have substantial visual impairments. It also has the ability to function as a spell checker, clock, calendar, and a calculator. Braille 'n' Speak Company: Freedom Scientific, Inc.

  10. Assistive Technology Device for physically disablesSupine StandersRifton Supine standing frames enable vertical standing for adults and children with physical disabilities. Using a vertical stander can strengthen core muscles and improve weight-bearing, weight-shifting and trunk control. Additionally, they promote upright social interactions at the same eye-level as a client's peers.
