Bones • Bones are used for support, protection, and movement • Human skeleton has about 206 bones in • Bones protect vital organs • Scull is hardest bone in body • Femur is largest bone in body • Ligament connects bone to bone • Each bone has it’s own function • The shape of the bone is often a clue to it’s function

Joints • Three types of joints; hinge, ball-and-socket, and gliding • Ball and socket allows you to move it in any direction; located in shoulder and hip • The hinge joint allows you to move it forward and strait; located in elbow, knee, fingers, and toes • Gliding joint allows you to move it back and forth; located in wrist, ankle, and spine

  4. Muscles • More muscles than bones • Located everywhere • Muscles contract when in use • Muscles pull on bones when contracting, causing bones to move • Muscle connects to bone with tissue called tendon • More muscle you have heavier stuff you can pick up because muscle pulls on bone even harder to make you pick it up

  5. Coordination • Coordination is where everything in body works together • A stimulus starts an action • A response is the action you do after a stimulus • your response is probably quicker on your good hand than your bad • Feet take longer because of distance message must travel
