Whatis NMUN? • The world‘slargestsimulation of UN committeesandspecialisedagencies on universitylevel (2010: 5,000 studentsfrom all over the world, 20 committeesandagencies such asthe General Assemblyand ECOSOC) • Held annually in New York atconferencehotels, openingandclosingceremonies in the Great Hall, UN Headquarters

Tübingen at NMUN • Student delegationshavetakenpartat NMUN New York since 1997, represented diverse countries such as Japan, India, Mexico and the Sudan • Preparationfor NMUN in twoparts: seminar on the United Nationssystem (heldby Prof. Hasenclever in summerterm) andworkshop on specificNMUN skills (heldby Ingvild Bode andtwoformerdelegates, the so-calledheaddelegates, in winter term)

  4. NMUN Workshop NMUN delegateskills • Rules of Procedure • howtowrite the maindocumentsneededfor UN simulations (positionpapers, resolutions , reports) • speechandrhetoricaltraining Country-specificpreparation Severaltestsimulations(Hohenheim MUN, Tübingen MUN) Self-administeredproject

Whyparticipate? • Insight intointernationldiplomacyandforeignpolicymeasures • Practicing communication skills and negotiation strategies • In-depth understanding ofUN procedures • Excursion to Geneva (visits to UN organisations and diplomatic missions) • Trip to NYC in March/April (usually includes visit to the Permanent Mission of the country Tübingen is representing)
