Cultural Conflicts: Genocide and Terrorism LG 5 • Analyze the causes and effects of conflicts between cultural groups and analyze the cultural changes that result from war and migration Success Criteria - Students will synthesize the causes and effects of historic conflicts will the ongoing conflicts of today and infer connections between the past and present - Students will be able to analyze the changes globally due to war and migration

  2. Quick Write: 15 minutes What is your definition of Genocide? What is your definition of Terrorism? Has your life been touch by genocide or terrorism? How? Why do you think it has?

  3. Video Clips- Students will answer two questions for each news clip or documentary/film segment. -Who is involved? -What was the motivation for the attack? Terrorism Norway Nigeria Scotland America Genocide Cambodia Kurdistan Rwanda Bosnia

  4. 2011 Norway Attacks- killed 91

  5. 2014 Nigerian School Attacks- killed 59 teenage boys

  6. 2001- September 11th attacks- killed 2977

  7. 1988 Lockerbie Bombing- killed 270

  8. Cambodian Genocide- Killed 1.7 million

  9. Rwandan Genocide- Killed 800’000 to 1 million

  10. Kurdish Genocide- Killed 5’000 in one day

  11. Bosnian Genocide- Killed 8’000 in 3 years

ANALYSIS OF LONG TERM AND CURRENT IMPACTS • Students will be broken into groups of 4 • Students will be working to analyze what the impacts of the event have been since it happened. • Students will pictorially or collage (pictures not words)show the event from start to finish including: • Motivation • Who was involved? • When did it happen? • What has been the long termpolitical impact of the event? • Have there been long term socialimpacts? • How has this impacted you directly or indirectly?
