  2. absolute altitude. The height of an aircraft directly above the surface or terrain over which it is flying

  3. background training. The training that provides basic technical knowledge and skills required to prepare for further specialized training

  4. camouflage. The use of natural or artificial material on personnel, objects, or tactical positions with the aim of confusing, misleading, or evading the enemy.

  5. data collection plan. An outline of the procedures and techniques that will be used to gather information for any specific purpose

  6. early reinforcement forces. Primarily AC divisions (CONUS- and OCONUS-based) and associated EAD and EAC support elements (both AC and RC); RC round-out and round-up brigades are available to add combat power to AC divisions designated as early reinforcement forces.

  15. narco-terrorism. [Terrorism conducted to further the aims of drug traffickers. It may include assassinations, extortion, hijackings, bombings, and kidnappings directed against judges, prosecutors, elected officials, or law enforcement agents, and general disruption of a legitimate government to divert attention from drug operations.

  16. observation helicopter. Helicopter used primarily for observation and reconnaissance, but which may be used for other roles.

  17. Parafrag. Fragmentation bomb, carried down by a parachute and fused to explode in mid-air.

  18. Q Star. A Schweizer sailplane, modified to a prototype silent reconnaissance aircraft with an engine behind the pilot. A long shaft was positioned above the cockpit, and a big propeller was fitted on top of the nose.

  19. radar. A radio detection device that provides information on range, azimuth and/or elevation of objects

  20. sabotage. An act or acts with intent to injure, interfere with, or obstruct the national defense of a country by willfully injuring or destroying, or attempting to injure or destroy, any national defense or war material, premises or utilities, to include human and natural resources.

  21. tacit arms control agreement. An arms control course of action in which two or more nations participate without any formal agreement having been made.

  22. unconventional warfare forces. United States forces having an existing unconventional warfare capability consisting of Army Special Forces and such Navy, Air Force, and Marine units as are assigned for these operations.

  23. vector. In air intercept, close air support and air interdiction usage, a code meaning, "Alter heading to magnetic heading indicated." Heading ordered must be in three digits

  24. war game. A simulation, by whatever means, of a military operation involving two or more opposing forces, using rules, data, and procedures designed to depict an actual or assumed real life situation.

  25. X-scale. On an oblique photograph, the scale along a line parallel to the true horizon.

  26. yaw. The rotation of an aircraft, ship or missile about its vertical axis so as to cause the longitudinal axis of the aircraft, ship or missile to deviate from the flight line or heading in its horizontal plane.

  27. marker beacon. A type of radio beacon, the emissions of which radiate in a vertical cone shaped pattern.
