  2. PREG – PO Register Example Goal: Two reports – one for AP and one for Purchasing. The two reports will separate the PO’s so that each respective area can look at only those items that pertain to them. Method: Differentiate the PO’s with various line statuses. For example, if the line status is “Accepted” then it should appear on the AP report. If the line status is “Outstanding” or “Backordered”, it should appear on the PO report. Ignore all other statuses.

  3. What is Monarch? Monarch is a Windows-based business intelligence and reporting tool that is easy to use – even if you’re not a “power user” with advanced technology skills. It mines data from existing text-based, PDF or XPS reports and lets you access and analyze data from databases, spreadsheets and other sources.

  4. This is an excerpt from a GL Trial Balance (GLTB). How would you work with this data to analyze it?

  7. This is what you would get using Monarch – every time!

  8. How do you go about getting these results every time without setting it up each time? Monarch uses models. Models are groups of templates which select text based on certain parameters (traps). When it finds those traps, it mines the data and uses it to create a view very similar to Excel.

  9. After adjusting the model to reflect the desired results, you can export the file in an Excel format. Now – open in Excel and play to your heart’s content!

Other Features of Monarch There are many other features of Monarch which include the ability to: • create calculated fields • create filters • link Excel spreadsheets • format the export into a summary format like Excel’s subtotal functionality. These are very useful when you need to pull data from a query or other document into a report to isolate only those items that you want to analyze as well as providing consistent formatting for repetitive reports.

  12. Most recent change in software (version 10 to 10.5) added a few new features which are great for auditing. You can now select to export the source data with the table view and embed it in the Excel file. Using a new Excel add-in, Monarch Context, you can select to show the source data and verify the accuracy of the exported data. Version 10.5 requires Excel 2007. Previous versions will also work with Excel 2003.
