Jobs • There are many jobs available in this field I will list a few. • Clinical Neurophysiology- A neurologist who specializes in the diagnosis and management of central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous system. • Hospice and Palliative Medicine - prevent and relieve the suffering experienced by patients with life-limiting illness. • Neuro-developmental Disabilities - diagnoses and manages chronic conditions that affect the developing and mature nervous system . • Neuromuscular Medicine - diagnoses and manages of disorder of nerves, muscle or neuromuscular junction. • Pain Medicine - provides a high level of care, either as a primary physician or consultant, for patients experiencing problems with acute, chronic or cancer pain in both hospital and ambulatory settings. • Sleep Medicine - diagnoses and manages of clinical conditions that occur during sleep. • Vascular Neurology - evaluates, prevents, treats and recovers from vascular diseases of the

  6. Demand • Employment of physitionsand surgeons is projected to grow faster than average for all occupations through the year 2014 due to continued expansion of health care industries. The growing and aging population will drive overall growth in the demand for physician services, as consumers continue to demand high levels of care using the latest technologies, diagnostic tests, and therapies. In addition to employment growth, job openings will result from the need to replace physicians and surgeons who retire over the 2004-14 period.

  7. A day in the life of a Neurologist • Examining Patients • Operating as solo practitioners or in groups of physicians, neurologists spend much of their days in examining rooms with patients. Based on the patient history, these assessments and the results of any tests done, neurologists formulate diagnoses and recommend treatment options. • Consulting and Making Hospital Visits • Neurologists spend much of their time on the telephone, coordinating with other physicians and providing consultations. Neurologists often spend part of their days at hospitals, where they conduct consultations and follow up with their patients who are hospitalized. • Staying Current With Research • To keep current with the latest neurological findings, neurologists read scientific research either online or in print journals. They also attend conferences and conventions.
