  1. Employability Skills By Alfie & Kez

  2. Time Keeping • Employees who can get given a task and can complete this task effectively and up to the time set by the line manager. • Nobody wants an employee who won’t turn up on time. • If you’re paid to start at 9 you should be there.

  3. Enthusiasm • Employers want to see employees who have a certain level of enthusiasm about the job they are doing. Because enthusiasm links in with effectiveness. If you are enthusiastic about the job, the job will get done.

  4. Experience • If you don’t have any work experience then it is better out se your real life examples than saying you don’t have any experience at all. It will be better than saying you have none. • It will help you stand out in an interview to the people who do say they have non experience.

  5. Confidence • You will need to have and maintain a certain level of self confidence in yourself. This means being able to trust your self to do the job effectively and to the standards. • If you are pestering your line manager if everything is correct, it shows poor self confidence and will annoy them.

  6. Having the skills • You will need the appropriate skills for the job you are doing otherwise you won’t be able to perform at the top of your game • You will need to show proof that you have the skills whether that is past projects or the physical qualifications. • Proof you have used the skills is often better than the qualifications.

  7. Problem Solving • This is especially useful in the testing department. If you can solve what is wrong with a certain piece of code yourself, it proves that you are a viable asset for a team and will make you stand out. • Do not always escalate the problem if you can’t do it at first glance. Actually try to solve it without escalating the issue. But don’t leave it too long.

  8. Self Motivation • We all have off days, but it is very important to maintain a level of motivation for the work you do, which will help you get it done on time and to a standard set by the clients. • Researching the company that you are applying for in an interview situation. • Motivation in the level of field you are working in, it closely links in with enthusiasm.

  9. Dress the Part • Dressing to a standard which is set by the company you work for. For instance when on a client site it is advised to always dress one up of the client. So if the client wears a shirt, it is advised that you wear a suit jacket. • You dress for the job you want. – Philosophy

  10. Tolerance • When working in the work place you will meet some people who are very snappy and not very nice. It could be your line manager for example and you just have to grin and bear it. And tolerate this behaviour. Rather than making a big fuss about it, if you tolerate it, you will get the job done faster.
