  2. . BASIC CHEMICALS, PHARMACEUTICALS & COSMETICS EXPORT PROMOTION COUNCIL POPULARLY KNOWN AS CHEMEXCIL WAS SET UP BY THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE, GOVT. OF INDIA IN 1963 . CHEMEXCIL HAS FOUR SEPARATE PANELS, THESE PANELS ARE : PANEL- I : Dyes & Dye Intermediates PANEL-II : Basic Inorganic & Organic Chemicals including Agro Chemicals, Pesticides PANEL-III : Cosmetics, Toiletries, Essential Oils. PANEL- IV : Agarbattis & Castor Oil CHEMEXCIL

  9. STATUS OF THE CHEMICAL INDUSTRY • An important constituent of Indian economy with size of USD 35 billion (equivalent to 3% of India’s GDP) • Total investment – approx. USD 60 billion • Employment generated – approx. 1 million • Accounts for 14% of total exports and 9% of total imports • In terms of volume 12th largest in world and 3rd largest in Asia • Per capita consumption of chemicals in India is 1/10th of World average • Growth expected to be 5-7% per annum CHEMEXCIL

INDIACHEM GUJARAT 2009 • Keeping in mind that the year 2008 had declared as “Year of Russia in India”, the Council had organized CHEMICAL MEET 2008 in March 2008 and invited very prestigious buyers/traders from Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan of Dyes and Cosmetics . There were 12  prestigious buyers / traders from Russia. • This year also in addition to the INDIAN CHEMICAL Exhibition coinciding with INDIA SHOW 2009 at St. Petersburg, CHEMEXCIL is holding a Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet from 12th -14th December, 2009 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India to coincide with INDIA-CHEM Gujarat 2009
