Mission Statement Our mission is to prepare undergraduate and graduate students in engineering and computing to become accomplished professionals; to individually contribute to our professions through active scholarship in all of its forms; and to support the University and society with expertise, leadership, and service.   26. West Michigan Science & Technology Initiative & Grand Valley Review highlighted GVSU grad, Ryan Phillips. Owner of Magnum Engineering, LCC, Ryan was highlighted as an innovative entrepreneur. • Various news outlets highlighted the School of Computing’s Mobile Applications and Services Lab work including the launch of new, free application for the Iphone and Android, “Shop Social” • WWJ Newsradio Highlighted our college’s two schools in their “Tech Tour” • The Lanthorn Highlighted Graduates Mark Kramer and Ryan Lillibridge invention the HARApad to protect against laptop radiation and heat of a laptop that may result in Toasted Skin Syndrome. • The Grand Rapids Press highlights • Electric Car workshop hosts speaker for high school students to learn about this year’s theme, battery technology . GVSU sponsors the electric car races held at the Berlin Raceway, Marne MI in the spring. • Project Day received coverage of many engineering & computing projects that were displayed for nearly 250 student visitors from area high schools. • Highlighted work of Professor Farris & Pung along with graduate student Shawn Wright in designing a motorized wheelchair platform for control training at Lincoln Developmental Center.

MiBizhighlighted our colleges partnership with Lakeshore Advantage’s “Smart Coast” in having and training high-skill, high-tech players for manufacturing industry. • Asher Scholarship winner named CIS Master’s student Alejandro Montoya Velez, was awarded $10K from video game powerhouse Electronic Arts for the Dick Asher scholarship named after one of the companies founders. • The MAREC Minute highlighted School of Engineering senior project team’s work on the Energy Monitor interactive application to monitor real-time and past energy activity at MAREC.   29. PCEC Outreach The Padnos College of Engineering and Computing has taken over the complete coordination and execution of STEPS Camp from the Regional Math and Science Center. The two weeks of camp require around 200 volunteers to make it run smoothly. STEPS Camp 2011 Week 1: June 13 – 16 Week 2: June 20 – 23 Volunteers needed! The biggest need for volunteers falls on Tuesday mornings for Construction and Thursday evenings for Fly Night. Airplane Construction I - Tuesday mornings 8 am – 12:15 pm in Kennedy Fly Night – Thursday evenings 5 pm – 9:00 pm at Warped Wings Fly Field in Allendale Airplane Construction II – Wednesday mornings 8 am – 11:15 pm in Kennedy Volunteer information will be e-mailed to faculty and staff in February.
