Optimal length of sub-speciality training/time • based vs competence based training • Conclusions • All members of sub-group agreed that some degree of subspecialty training • is important • Residents should have reached a level of training such that they are • “emergency safe” before entering subspecialty training • Length of subspecialty training should be at least 2 years but it should be • competency/outcome based • Outcome determined by • - Logbook/syllabus • - Annual evaluation • - Exam at end of sub-specialty training • - Academic e.g peer-reviewed publication(s)
