  2. Our Task: • Align the English 12 Curriculum’s Objectives, Skills, and Content for all three high schools.

  3. Beginning with End in Mind: We are working toward agreement on Objectives, Skills and General Content for students in English 12: We are laying the groundwork for further curricular alignment and development in English 11, 10 & 9:

Beginning with End in Mind: We are working toward agreement on Objectives, Skills and (to a lesser degree) Content for students in English 12: “What should a Senior with an Amphitheater District Diploma have demonstrated as a reader, writer, listener, speaker and person of good character?” We are laying the groundwork for further curricular alignment and development in English 11, 10 and 9: “What skills and content should be part of each English course leading up to English 12 as students move toward meeting the objectives and skill requirements of English 12?”

Sample Skills List: (H2) Essential Skills: 1.       Critical Analysis: to be able to independently deconstruct a product and explicate the analysis 2.       Persuasion: to be able to formulate an opinion and effectively explicate the evidence that supports it 3.       Presentation: to be able to present oneself professionally, confidently, intelligently, and appropriately 4.       Formulating a Thesis: to be able to independently create a thesis about which to think/write 5.       Successfully Transferring Thoughts to Paper: to be able to overcome a block that would prevent a student from effectively writing about his/her ideas 6.       Identifying and Using Reputable Source Material: to be able to persist in independently identifying respected and accurate sources for research and use them effectively 7.       Attributing Sources/Plagiarism: to be able to effectively and correctly cite source material in the MLA format
