  10. WORKING ENVIRONMENT WOMEN OFFICERS WORK HAND IN HAND WITH MALE COLLEAGUES WITH MUTUAL RESPECT AND SUPPORT FROM BOTH SENIOR & SUBORDINATES. WORKING CONDITIONS ARE CONDUCIVE ENOUGH TO BRING ABOUT THE DESIRED TEAM WORK IN ACHIEVING SPECIFIC TASKING YES, THERE ARE CASES OF SEXUAL HARRASMENT BUT IT IS VERY RARE AND ARE NORMALLY ISOLATED IN NATURE. IN GENERAL,WOMEN OFFICERS ARE TREATED EQUALLY AND WITH MUTUAL RESPECT WOMEN OFFICERS ENJOYED EQUAL PAY AS MALE COLLEAGUES THUS THEY ARE REQUIRED TO PERFORM EQUALLY EXCEPT FOR CERTAIN DUTIES THAT ARE DEEMED NOT SUITABLE FOR WOMEN WOMEN OFFICERS ENJOYED BENEFITS THAT ARE PRESCRIBED TO THEM BY GOVERNMENT DIRECTIVES SUCH AS MATERNITY LEAVE, POSTING & TRANSFER BASED ON SPOUSE’S POSTING ROYAL MALAYSIA POLICE –IWPC

  11. Glass Ceiling IN ROYAL MALAYSIA POLICE THERE IS NO GLASS CEILING AND THE SKY IS YOUR LIMIT. IF THERE IS SUCH THING, IT IS THE OFFICER HERSELF WHO CREATED THE LIMIT OUT OF FEAR THAT SHE CAN’T PERFORM OR DELIVER ACCORDINGLY. WE ARE LUCKY IN THE SENSE THAT OUR GOVERNMENT MADE IT A POLICY THAT WOMEN SHALL BE GIVEN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY IN EVERY SECTOR OF PUBLIC SERVICES AND ALL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES MUST ENSURE 30% OF WOMEN ARE PLACED IN DECISION MAKING POSTS. 11 ROYAL MALAYSIA POLICE –IWPC

  12. WOMEN IN POLICING & POLICING THE WOMEN • WHEN IT COMES TO POLICING THE • WOMEN, RMP GIVE SPECIAL EMPHASIS • TO WOMEN AND CHILDREN. WE HAVE THE • FOLLOWING PROGRAMME TO ASSIST • WOMEN IN SEEKING PROTECTION • AND JUSTICE: • ► WOMEN INVESTIGATORS TO HANDLE • SEXUAL RELATED CASES • ► WOMEN & CHILD PROTECTION CENTRE • TO SAFEGUARD THEIR SECURITY & • INTEREST WHILE UNDERGOING • INVESTIGATION FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE • ► JOINT EFFORT WITH LOCAL NGOs TO PROVIDE • SUPPORT SERVICES LIKE COUNSELLING • ► SPECIAL TASK FORCE TO INVESTIGATE • SYNDICATED WORK PERTAINING TO CRIME • AGAINST WOMEN & CHILDREN ROYAL MALAYSIA POLICE –IWPC

Women Friendly Ministry ROYAL MALAYSIA POLICE IS AN AGENCY UNDER THE HOME AFFAIRS MINISTRY HOWEVER, IN MALAYSIA WE HAVE A WOMEN FRIENDLY MINISTRY WHICH SUPPORT THE RMP IN ANY PROGRAMME PERTAINING TO WOMEN AND CHILD PROTECTION. THE MINISTRY CAN FACILITATE RMP IN EVENTS UNDER ITS PURVIEW SUCH AS CAMPAIGNING AGAINST SNATCH THEFT WHERE WOMEN ARE TARGETED. SUPPORT FOR SUCH PROGRAMME ACTED AS A BOOSTER BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE FUNDING WHILE OURS ARE RUNNING LOW MINISTER OF WOMAN, FAMILY & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ROYAL MALAYSIA POLICE –IWPC

  14. SO WE TRY TO INCORPORATE THE WOMEN FRIENDLY MINISTRY WHENEVER IT IS POSSIBLETO MAINTAIN A WIN-WIN SITUATION

The Way Forward • TRAINING, TRAINING, TRAINING….. • SEND FOR OVERSEAS COURSES TO ACQUIRE NEW KNOWLEDGE & TECHNIQUE OF INVESTIGATION • HANDS-ON EXPOSURE FOR YOUNG • OFFICERS • ATTACHMENT WITH FOREIGN POLICE • FORCE FOR TRAINING PURPOSE • GETTING CLOSE TO THE COMMUNITY • TO FEEL THE HEAT AND PULSE OF THE • GROUND • INCREASE SITUATIONAL AWRENESS ROYAL MALAYSIA POLICE –IWPC

  16. THE ONLY CONSTANT IN LIFE IS CHANGE POLICE LEADERSHIP MUST HAVE THE COURAGE TO CHANGE IN ORDER TO REMAIN RELEVANT IN TODAY’S THREAT ENVIRONMENT 16

  17. WOMEN POLICE ARE AN EQUAL PARTNER IN LAW ENFORCEMENT AND BY HAVING MORE WOMEN POLICE THE BURDEN OF MAINTANING PEACE AND ORDER CAN BE EQUALLY DISTRIBUTED BETWEEN CAPABLE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE POLICE FORCE AND THERE IS NOTHING TO LOSE BUT EVERYTHING TO GAIN ROYAL MALAYSIA POLICE –IWPC 17
