  4. Facts about cervical cancer in Japan • Cervical cancer is on the increase in younger women. • Cervical cancer screening rates are low, esp. in young women

Cervical cancer screening rates in Japan • Screening rates in young women <30 yrs of age are very low and many preinvasive cancers might be left undiagnosed. • Many young cervical cancer patients are missing the chance to have fertility-preserving treatment. HPV vaccine in Japan • Bivalent vaccine was approved in October2009 • Full coverage (half by the central government and half by local governments) for the cost of vaccination for girls aged 13-16 began in October 2010. • PCAF member, Ms. Sharon Hanley, spoke about how Japanese mothers think about the HPV vaccine yesterday.
