  1. UNIT 3

  2. Front kick• Cues Thigh o The thigh is parallel to ground. o Foot is flexed and toes are bent back. o Rapidly extend the leg from the knee and strike the target with the ball of the foot. (Snap the knee). o Maintain balance throughout the kick. Elbow jab• Cues o Straighten the arm out with the fist in a palm down position. o Drive the elbow back into ribs or the abdominal area of attacker. o As elbow is driven back, the fist moves to a palm up position. Drive elbow back Shin scrape and stomp• Cues o Scrap down the shin of the attacker using the side of the foot. o After scraping down the shin, stomp on instep of the attacker. Simulate the putting their full weight onto the instep.

  3. Side Kick• Cues o Lift one leg. Pivot the body so that the side of this kicking leg is turned toward the attacker. o The kicking leg is flexed at the hip and the knee. o Push the leg toward the target and hit the target with the entire side of foot Instep kick• Cues o Lift one leg. Pivot the body so that the side of this kicking leg is turned toward the attacker. o The kicking leg is flexed at the hip. The knee and the toe are pointed. o Rapidly extend the leg from the knee and hit with the top of the foot. Back Fall• Students should know the basic principles of falling if they are ever thrown to the ground by an attacker. • When students are thrown to the ground, the student should land on as much of the body as possible to absorb shock. They should never reach back to catch their fall with their hands and arms. • In order to fall correctly, the students should tuck the chin to the chest, roll on to the lower back and slap the hands on the ground as they land. • The students should recover immediately to their feet by rolling forward to their feet or performing a shoulder roll to their feet.

  4. One Hand Lapel Release• The attacker grabs the defender with one hand on the lapel of the shirt. • Steps of the release o Assume a defensive stance. o The defender kicks the attacker in the leg. o The defender uses the opposite hand from the side the attacker has grabbed. The defender puts the hand on the back of the attacker’s hand and wrist. o The defender’s other hand goes underneath the attacker’s elbow with the palm-up. o The defender lifts up on the elbow, presses in on the wrist and then twists very quickly to remove the attacker’s arm. Two Hand Lapel Release• The attacker grabs the defender with two hands by the lapels of the shirt. • Steps of the release o Assume a defensive stance. o The defender kicks the attacker and then forcefully brings either arm over the top of the defender’s arms and turns sideways to the attacker. o The defender should immediately come back with an elbow strike to the head of the attacker.

  5. Double Wrist Lock from the Back• The attacker grabs the defender with both hands on the defender’s wrists from the back. • Steps of the release o The defender back kicks the attacker. o The defender then bends the arms at the elbows, gets low and steps forward very quickly. o As the defender steps forward, s/he should drive both arms forward forcefully. o Finish the release with a back kick to the attacker. Double Elbow Lock (rear)• The attacker wraps his/her arms around the defender’s elbows from the back. • Steps of the release o The defender shin scrapes and stomps the attacker. o The defender then gets low and leans forward at the hips. o After leaning forward, the defender steps forward and pulls his/her arms from the attacker. o Finish the release with a back kick to the attacker.
