  2. Agenda Topics: • Member Introductions • Monthly Theme Presentations: Colors • Photo Q&A • January Theme: Shadows • Discussion: Helpful Exposure Setting Standards • Recognition of All-Army Photo Contest Winners • Plan next meeting’s agenda

  3. Mission / vision: • Mission: To share in our passion for photography by exchanging ideas and techniques, encouraging creativity and talent, and fostering enduring friendships. • Vision: To be recognized for excellence as an amateur photography club. • As members placing in DA digital photography contests, and other host nation contests. • Recognition from other military and local community organizations and groups. • Sponsoring and/or participating in community events and activities.

  4. January Theme: SHADOWS • Jan sun is low, so shadows are prominent • Be creative, look on the “dark” side • Silhouettes are a separate topic • Natural response is to avoid shadows… think outside the box • Look at the subject, then look past it, and subject will disappear • Ensure focus is on the shadow, not the subject.

  5. Helpful exposure tips: • Sky Brothers (meter reading) • Brother Blue Sky – Winter and Color • Take reading from the blue sky • Brother Backlit Sky – Sunsets/Sunrises • Take reading from the sky to side of sun • Brother Dusky Blue Sky – City/Countryscapes • Take reading from dusky blue sky • Brother Reflecting Sky – Water or Reflections • Take reading from the reflection • Mr. Green Jeans (foliage) • -2/3 f/stop exposure • Double Exposure • -1 f-stop exposure for both photos

  6. Helpful exposure tips: • Polarizing Filter • Turn filter to remove/reduce reflection • +2 f/stop exposure • Stop the Grays • White (snow/sand) +1 f/stop exposure • Black (shadow) -1 f/stop exposure • f/stops • Who Cares? (flat compositions) use f/8 or f/11 • Speed • ¼ sec for Cotton Candy waterfalls • 8 sec for long trailing traffic lights • Tips courtesy of: Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson
