  2. Present overview • Understand the 5 components of Pre-ETS • Review them in context of a known school • Discuss and develop questionnaires or assessments for identifying Pre-ETS in a school or program you work with.

  3. Pre test • What is YTP? How does a student get connected with YTP? • What is VR? How do students get signed up VR? • How are students eligible for VR services?

  4. Pre-test Answers • What is YTP? How does a student get connected with YTP? Youth Transition Specialist, work with the transition specialist in the district/ school • What is VR? How do students get signed up VR? Vocational Rehabilitation – a transition specialist, knows the student, “pre-screens” a student and refers them to the area VR councilor • How are students eligible for VR services? A student has as documented disability that is a Barrier to Employment (competitive employment) and they are motivated to seek competitive employment • Motivation and

South Eugene High School Demographics • School size ~1500 total • Students on IEPs at South = 120 students served 100 Learning Center and a special program PathFinder • Diploma type – majority of students are working towards a standard diploma • Do have increased numbers in students working towards modified diplomas

Life as a SpEd Student at South • Students are supported by Advisory classes (study hall) • Transition Class Program – Transitions 11 and 12 classes • All general education classes offered / CTE offerings • Classes under SpEd umbrella • Work Experience class – all grade levels, target student are those on Modified Diplomas • Coffee shop class So, what is the Transition Specialist’s role in all of it?

What are Pre-ETS • Job Exploration and Counseling • Counseling for connecting to educational programs at institutions of higher education • Work readiness training to develop social skills and skills needed to develop independent learning • Instruction in Self- Advocacy • Work based learning experiences

  9. A Survey of SEHS What we did… • Interview school guidance counselors • Reference school Curriculum Guide • Consult teachers, department heads or lead teachers • Interview students on what classes they take and what then know about job exploration, social skills and self-advocacy
