  1. AMMONIA SYSTEM INSTALLATION EXAMPLE ON OPERATING SYSTEM USING:

  2. INSTALLATION CONDITIONS • SYSTEM AGE: 16 YEARS • 85 – 90° F • 85% HUMIDITY • 9:30 AM EST • SYSTEM TEMPERATURE 24° F • 4” O.D. PRIMED STEEL PIPE • 4” STYROFOAM INSULATION • RG-2400 LT AT AMBIENT (90-96° F) • INSTALLATION TIME 21 MINUTES

  3. PICTORAL INSTALLATION REMOVING METAL JACKET

  4. After removing approximately 6’ of metal jacketing, we knew corrosion would be present due to the fiberglass present, and the lack of a vapor retarder on some of the styrofoam insulation. FIBERGLASS EXPANSION JOINT STYRO ASJ ON STYROFOAM REMAINING PRIMER EASILY REMOVED METAL JACKET REMOVED

  5. CLOSE-UP OF EXPANSION JOINT

  6. PRIMER ON INSULATION CORROSION ON PIPE

  7. REMAINING PRIMER EASILY REMOVED

  8. Note slight frost already forming on the pipe surface. Primer which was well adhered to the pipe does not have to be removed. PIPE IS READY FOR RG-2400 LT

  9. INSTALLING RG-2400 LT

  10. Pipe temperature thickens the RG-2400 LT quickly. After 3 passes over an area it gets difficult to spread and achieve adhesion. The slight frost on the pipe left some voids, however fresh “warm” material could be put over these areas and achieve ahesion. INSTALLING RG-2400 LT

  11. A WELL COATED PIPE READY FOR INSULATION

  12. CONCLUSIONS • COATING A 24° PIPE IN OPERATION IS POSSIBLE IN SMALL SECTIONS. • RG-2400 MUST BE WARM TO IMPROVE COVERAGE AND EASE OF APPLICATION • INSULATION MUST BE INSTALLED IMMEDIATELY UPON ACHIEVING COVERAGE TO PREVENT CONDENSATION FROM FORMING ON THE RG-2400 • INSULRAP OR FABWRAP VAPOR BARRIER SHOULD BE USED TO KEEP OUT MOISTURE • TESTING WILL CONTINUE ON -15° F LINES IN OPERATION AND -50° F LINES IN OPERATION. RESULTS WILL BE ADDED TO THIS PPT PRESENTATION. • GLYCOL WILL BE TESTED TO REMOVE FROST ON THE COLDER LINES.
