What is Business Analytics? • Analytical techniques from multiple disciplines to solve business problems • Data mining, statistics, operations research, game theory • Business Analytics is not a distinct management function, but is a skill-set that can add value in each management function • Sales forecasting • Customer relationship management at credit card firms • Optimizing asset allocation in a portfolio • Scheduling • Competing on price, capacity; entering and exiting a market • Aligning incentives in a supply chain, executive compensation
