  2. Folk tale • A folk tale is a story based on the traditions of a people or region, told by parents to children and then by the children to their children.

  3. Examples of folk tales • Paul Bunyan • Billy Goats Gruff • Three Little Pigs • Brer Rabbit • Headless Horseman • Johnny Appleseed

  4. Strategy • Evaluate -You should evaluate a text by identifying the reason the author has written it.

  5. Author’s Purpose • PIE!!!! • P- persuade • I- inform • E- entertain

  6. Interfere (verb) • to take part in the affairs of others when not asked

  7. Guardian (noun) • someone or something who watches over or protects

  8. Agile (adj) • able to move and react quickly and easily

  9. Tottered (verb) • walked or moved with unsteady steps

  10. Awkward (adj) • without grace in movement or behavior

  11. Proclaimed (verb) • announced publicly

  12. Story Words • inhibiting- slowing down or holding back • coiled- moved in a circling or twisting way • mesquite- a shrub with thorns that grows in the southwestern United States • yucca- a warm climate plant with long leaves, strong stems, and white flowers • ruckus- a lot of noise and activity

  14. Strategy • Evaluate- You should begin evaluating a text by identifying the reason the author has written it. • Authors Purpose- An author’s purpose may be to entertain, persuade, instruct or inform.

  15. Synonyms • A word that has the same or a very similar meaning to another word. You can find synonyms in a thesaurus or a synonym finder. awkward-clumsy agile- graceful tottered- wobbled proclaimed- announced
