  1. REFLEX ARCS

  2. reflexes are quick involuntary movements to various stimuli • a reflex arc is the simplest nerve pathway, there is no interpretation by the brain and therefore a quick response is produced.

  3. It contains five essential parts: • 1. RECEPTOR: a specialized sensor that detects different types of stimuli:

  4. 2. SENSORY NEURON: carries information from the receptor to the spinal cord. • 3. INTERNEURON: a relay station that sends the impulse to a motor neuron, found in the spinal cord, it does not interpret the impulse

  5. 4. MOTOR NEURON: conducts the impulse from the spinal cord to the effector. • 5. EFFECTOR: part of the organism that will produce a response ex: muscles

  6. in a regular nerve impulse there is interpretation of the sensory information by the interneurons in the brain. • DIAGRAM PAGE 412 IN NELSON BIOLOGY

  7. Make notes on Patellar Reflex and Pupillary Reflex (Pg 412-413) • Homework Log Questions: Page 410 #1-4 and Pg 414 #1-4.
