  1. Review JB CARAVANS-GATORX Straight from the house of JB caravans, off-road luxury RV, the GatorX is a sight to behold. Smaller and lighter than JB’s other popular offering, the Scorpion, the Gator still looks like it can take a beating and endure whatever thrills Straya’s wild outback may throw at it. www.offroadcaravans.com

  2. Review JB CARAVANS-GATORX Impressive on the outside: Like its namesake, the GatorX is sheathed in a tough exterior, with all vulnerable parts covered in a higher-than before black checker plate waist that runs all around the van and protects the undercarriage that houses the water tanks as well. Sitting on an in-house manufactured galvanised steel chassis and 16 in anodised tyres, the GatorX shows you it means business. The checker plate fabricated tool box with slide out compartments and two gas bottles protected by a stone guard are at the front of the van, which is almost entirely scratch-proof checker plate splashed with striking orange decals. Of course, the manufacturers offer a wide range of colour schemes for the decals, if the iconic black and orange combo is not your cup of tea. A walk through the other features on the exterior of the rig will check all your caravan essentials- a full roll-out awning, picnic table with 12V sockets, TV bracket and external speakers, a wineguard antenna, an external shower to wash off the muck of an outdoorsy day and of course, one spare tyre and a reverse camera for ease of manoeuvrability. The only downside is that there is no slide-out barbecue or external kitchen—a feature that one comes to expect in a rig of this size. Layouts: In keeping with its reptilian theme, the GatorX comes in a range of configurations to suit your needs—from a queen bed van, a layout with two single beds or a queen plus double bunk layout, JB has kept the overall length of its caravan between 17 and 18 feet to retain its agility on the road. www.offroadcaravans.com

  3. Review JB CARAVANS-GATORX What’s inside? The inside of the caravan is, however, pretty far cry from anything remotely resembling the terrifying water predator it’s named for. Panoramic windows, swanky LED lighting and top of the line furnishing give you the impression of five-star luxury. You can go off-grid for an indefinite amount of time and still not miss home in this living suite that comes with a fully equipped kitchen—large Waeco refrigerator, gas burners and electrical hot plate with a full size oven, top mounted microwave and heaps of storage. There are even with soft close doors and slide out shelves. A massive 218 litre fridge completes the kitchen, ensuring that you get to stock up with fresh food and drinks, no matter how far you decide to travel. www.offroadcaravans.com

  4. Review JB CARAVANS-GATORX A café-style lounge with a folding table and more storage space underneath and overhead is a great place to kick back and enjoy the cool comforts of your air conditioned mobile home, and you can even charge all your gadgets thanks to the conveniently located 12v power points. The bedroom is a self-sufficient area—large queen bed, numerous wardrobes, overhead lockers and cupboards neatly set all around and a 24-inch smart TV that swivels. All cabinets are piano-hinged and have an expensive-looking finish that matches the one-piece vinyl flooring. Ensuite: On the opposite end of the rig is the ensuite—impressively spacious and not claustrophobic at all thanks to ample natural light streaming in through the window and overhead LED. A standard toilet cassette, vanity with large round ceramic basin, wall mounted washing machine flanked by storage cabinets aplenty and full height shower comprise the bathroom. The two 150W solar panels ensure that your dual lithium batteries are always brimming with charge as long as it’s fairly sunny out, as most appliances run off the battery power. A fusion 755 entertainment system with overhead speakers and iPod dock up the luxury quotient of this robust caravan. Verdict: This caravan performs exceptionally well through rocky landscape as well as creeks and gullies and will proved to be an easy tow thanks to its sleek and zippy design. www.offroadcaravans.com
